The #SaveBrickLane campaign’s inquiry begins next week. We need people to show up to the inquiry and support the local community with this fight! It will go on for 14 days at the Brady Arts and Community Centre on Hanbury Street.

‘After the Hurricane’ 1988 Storm Amy reminded me of the painting I began a few weeks after the devastation caused in October1987, featuring King Edward Memorial Park, Shadwell. Unusually I have included myself in this picture! @thegentleauthor @ahistoryinart

@thegentleauthor Gillian Tindall wrote so well. The engine, when it finally appeared, would at first seem friendly but then grief in size, becoming enormous, a dragon 20 foot high that crashed past with such a din and a fleeting blast of heat that we would cower... (The Pulse Glass)

R.I.P. Tindall’s 2006 ‘The House by The Thames: and the people who lived there’ explored the residents of 49 Bankside in Southwark.
It is with a heart full of emotion that I have to announce that my good friend the historian GILLIAN TINDALL died on Wednesday aged 86. In February, Gillian asked me to publish her final work, JOURNAL OF A MAN UNKNOWN, which comes out on 6th November. https://t.co/dGRh4YSVtL

How sad. She was my neighbour in Kentish Town. I must have seen her several times a week in Leighton Road, or popping in or out of the butcher's.

Sad news, my favourite Historian, the Fields beneath got me to Kentish Town. Met her once at the Dickens plaque event in Fitzrovia.

Sad news. ‘The Fields Beneath’ and ‘The House by the Thames’ are two of the best books ever written about London’s history. I hadn’t realised till I looked her up how wide was her range, or that she started by writing fiction…
