This is worth a pause from my silence here.Huge loss for our community, really tough to take.Ross was a brilliant academic and someone who truly cared about his work, his students, and people in general. You left the world a better place than you found it, Ross, we will miss you.
RIP Ross Anderson - a pioneer in security and privacy research, and pretty much the first to not only recognise the importance of both economics and human behaviour in security, but to then do something about it. He will be sadly missed.

Same here, ‘cause this is too important. Check out https://t.co/7ghXjdfNgz for details, share, and apply! Applications are due April 14. @GustavoPiga @borrasimone and yours truly are looking forward to a great second edition!
Please join me in thanking all of the wonderful, selfless people who make this program possible, whom I love so much that I was willing to break my protest against this godforsaken bird site and Elno Musk 😂

Medical and biometric data is highly sensitive. Unlike an ID # this data cannot be changed. @MeganPrictor @cooper_cn & I speak with @arielbogle about long-term consequences - especially for children - who don’t get a say when their data is shared.
abc.net.au
While adults are also at risk of scams or stigma due to the disclosure of health records, children are a special case — particularly because they don't always get a say about what carers sign them up...

If you don’t have dietary restrictions and you’re feeling down for some reason, just call up and I’ll make this for you. I guarantee it’ll solve all your problems. (…except if you’re a Barça fan. Carbonara might actually bring back another 3-0 memory, would not recommend 🙄)

Retirement plan: I’m going to do a diff-in-diff study of willingness to pay for red dye vs. other colors before and after the publication of this tweet, and then I’m going to do data-driven decision making and sell my hair. 😅

This. But also: 2 factor authentication (where your second factor is not your phone number or another email address; use @Yubico for instance)
*New takedown tool* It’s easy to hack into accounts bc we can find most email/phone online, plug those into data breaches, then find passwords & login as you. 🔒Google launched a new tool for sensitive detail takedown requests🔒Here’s how to remove your contact info for free:

Diversify your portfolio. Works on so many levels!
Assessing the social interactions and happiness of over 50,000 people reveals that interacting with a more diverse set of relationship types predicts higher well-being. This is over-and-above their total amount of social interaction. https://t.co/lN3On37tLO

FB algorithms classify race, gender, and age of people in ad images and make delivery decisions based on the predictions. Images of Black folks are shown more to B users; images of children are delivered more to women; images of young women reach older men.

Disappointed in the @washingtonpost, which uses California, a clear outlier in these data, to argue that there's no correlation between school closures and learning loss. Also contradicted by more granular analyses ( https://t.co/haHlLGKjPp)
https://t.co/7m5xl0CjpN
Math: more in-person, less loss. Consistent with results from within-state analysis of state level data. Interesting outliers: California, Hawaii. (2/4)
