They found a small owl inside of this year’s Rockefeller Christmas tree, he hitched a ride all the way to NYC and is now being treated and cared for at a wildlife rehab facility.
Damn, I really built a company that employs 6 people, has helped hundreds of women get jobs in tech (where we are still grossly underrepresented) all without a dime of venture capital and now we are doing millions in revenue to continue our mission 🚀
I was 30 when I just *started* working in tech and since then I’ve worked at Google, built a multimillion $ startup, and helped hundreds of women in tech get hired in the industry.
You all have plenty of time.
Peloton has a REAL community of riders behind it. Just saw a woman say her husband lost his job and she has 4 kids and can’t afford to keep the bike and asking for a resell group and members venmo’d her enough money in two hours to keep her bike for life. ❤️
This is so important for anyone working in AI to see. Hyper-sexualization of WOC is a problem in media that’s transferring to AI even when professionalism is the intended purpose. 👎🏻
i tried the AI linkedin/curriculum picture generator and this was the result. The pictures i gave for reference are simple selfies of my face ONLY. But still, the AI oversexualized me due to my features that have been fetishized for centuries. AI is biased for POC. I’m horrified
Create a donation ritual, even if you’re only donating $5. My cat sends holiday presents to his shelter back home every year. Before we had $ my husband and I picked 8 places to make small donations to on 8 nights of Hanukkah. Donating as a yearly ritual is rich shit!
@palashp40616755
If the driver did anything to the cat he needs to be charged with animal cruelty, lose his job and Lyft, and be charged accordingly. and I would be suing Lyft too.
2) Chop and prep everything for your dinner during a 15-20 min break from work. Then when it comes time to cook after work you can pretend you had a sous chef (past you) do all the hard parts ✌️
5) When you find something perfect that you’ve been searching for (the perfect pair of sneakers, the best jeans, etc) BUY TWO OF THEM and put one away for the future, or just use both so they don’t wear down as fast.
@racheleklein
If you can’t embody the “no questions asked” aspect of giving away free food you should not be a volunteer. If they showed up, they need it, end of story.
3) Buy variety packs of things like seltzer + snacks so it feels like you have an abundance stocked even if you just bought a small amount.
Organize them on shelves where you can see them w/ labels facing out (rich shit)
For the latest role we’re hiring for, I’m sending the interview questions to candidates ahead of time.
Most roles don’t require working under pressure so why create pressure?
I’d rather use our time to evaluate how folks prepare (arguably a greater skill).
6) Figure out how to get into the airport lounge before your next flight. There are day passes, credit card points, or just buying a slightly upgraded seat (not as major as 1st class upgrade) ✅ Another person on this thread said TSA pre check and YES.
I don’t know who needs to hear this but you *can* ease into the new year. It’s not necessarily a switch from super-relaxed to wild hustling, having ease and a sense of calm is great for work and productivity 😌📈
Guess what?
@jointechladies
was acquired!
After staying on to transition the team last year, I’m finally taking a real break after 8 years of building. I just turned 40 and I don't know what's next, but I'm excited for the future!
Wow a Tech Lady just negotiated an extra $15k on her first job offer with the help and encouragement of comments in our group. The power of community is real and amazing ✨
@racheleklein
Also volunteering is *customer service*. I serve dinner to folks at a pantry and they often have many extra requests. Since I’m in service to them, I do my best to get them anything they ask for.
@lyft
@palashp40616755
Why wasn’t this escalated in real time when you could have contacted the driver directly? The cat should have been returned within 15 mins, max.
If the driver did anything to Tux he’s facing felony animal cruelty charges and you’ll be sued too.
Plus, massive loss of trust
7) Use
#ChatGPT
as your personal assistant, have it write your emails to save you time, write out schedules for you, create grocery lists based on recipes, etc. It's FREE, sign up at
Twitter should hire 3 people to work full-time for all of March to to verify 150 women a day during Women’s History Month, to partially close to verification gap on this platform for women. ✅
@palashp40616755
@AskLyft
This is horrifying, I ride with
@AskLyft
with my pets all the time and I would never imagine they would be so unhelpful during an actual emergency.
@Bethenny
@Oprah
She has it very hard in the press over there including them being racist against her. It’s a ton of pressure. And for him, he’s seeing all these things happening to his wife that led up to his Mom being murdered by paparazzi so, it’s legit trauma they are dealing with.
Thinking about starting a small group of bootstrapped founders so we can share resources and help each other. Reply to this tweet if you’d be down. Must have a company already launched that has $0 VC funding.
A majorly underrated networking skill is closing the loop.
Did someone introduce you to an interesting new person? Tell them if you ended up meeting!
Did they refer you to a job? Tell them if you got an interview!
They recommended a book and you read it? Tell them!
🎉It’s my 37th birthday and to celebrate, I’m realizing a dream this year that I want to share with you all... in 2020 I’m going to be making 1-2 investments in companies with underrepresented and underestimated founders. Pitches to allison
@hiretechladies
.com 🎉
Ten years of experimenting with yoga, pilates, cardio, running etc and no real change to my body.
Weightlifting for just 5 months and see visual changes already 😭
Sad weights have been kept from women for so long!
A fun fact about me is that Tech Ladies has 50,000 members who had to apply to get in and I have *read and approved every application personally* over the past 3 years.
So I really know what our community wants and needs.
Highly recommend building slowly like this.
The concept of having (or being) a boss is outdated.
If you’re a leader in your company your job is to motivate your collaborators, remove blockers for them, provide resources that enable them to get their work done, and say thank you as often as you can.
Nandini is a Tech Lady and has an amazing story that everyone can learn from: “It costs nothing to make space for me. It costs nothing to cc me in. It costs nothing to empower other people to achieve their goals.”
Another member gave her bike to a woman going through chemo and a team member from Peloton saw it in the group and went to her house with a bunch of Peloton gifts! They are paying attention to the community and doing it right.
Social media is net bad and it’s not even a close argument anymore.
We need to tear down the current platforms and rebuild new ones that encourage people to connect in ways that don’t reward performance and have safety nets that protect the most vulnerable.
Job hunting can be hard.
If you're unemployed and there's a tech/business book you want to read to help you grow, comment with the Amazon link. I'll choose a few people to gift a book to today.
Feel free to share ✨
@TheRyanHamilton
Done and done. It’s meant a lot how much you’ve spoken out lately and realize that takes time away from work. Thanks for being a man who stands up for women’s reproductive rights. ✅
@ZoeSchiffer
@IfeomaOzoma
@erikashimizu
Making it right with a (white) woman executive but leaving out anything substantial for
@IfeomaOzoma
and
@erikashimizu
is not ok. Like where is that $2.5M donation for “underrepresented groups” going? You have underrepresented people right here who deserve compensation
My husband has worked in NYC hospitals throughout this whole pandemic, so we've just constantly been exposed and at risk since March.
During the darkest days, I dreamed about the vaccine arriving.
Today he made an appointment to get the vaccine.
Surreal that it's here!
I’ve started being honest with people when they ask what I do. “I built a company for 8 years and recently sold it, so I’m taking a year off to figure out what to do next. And I have no idea what I’m going to do next.” 🤷🏻♀️
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but here's a friendly reminder that you’re much more qualified than you think you are!
What are you going after in 2023?
Tech Ladies now has a team of SEVEN people- what? Super proud that we are bootstrapped, 100% woman-owned, and making it happen. Thanks to everyone who has been supporting

✨BIG NEWS!✨
I'm so excited to announce that today, after 7 years of building
@jointechladies
, I'm taking a step back from day-to-day operations for a new adventure!!
Probably the hardest part about building a successful business is that in the beginning you have to pay close attention to every minute detail but then to expand you have to do the exact opposite— let go and watch it fly. And you have to be right about WHEN to make the switch.
Being underestimated can be a gift. It teaches you:
🚀 How to trust yourself to accomplish things
🚀 How to play the long game (watch me!)
🚀 How to define success for yourself, not others
Request for product: a timer that layers over apps as you open them to display in real time how long you’ve had that app open (to prevent mindless scrolling). 👀
Some *super simple* tips if you are applying to jobs in tech right now:
✨PDF your resume, don’t send a docx situation or anything that’s gonna get reformatted when people open it
✨ Don’t have a email on outdated domains, just get gmail

QQ what if everyone named Josh was being murdered by the state and you were at uniquely at risk when doing anything in public just because you’re a Josh and then children named Josh were being murdered too and your company said you can’t talk about it at work?
I keep finding amazing new entrepreneurs with incredible products to invest in but my angel funds are limited 😭Someone should make me a scout or something because my ability find dealflow within Tech Ladies is amazing and MANY are POC and Black women entrepreneurs.
I was required to show my proof of vaccine to eat inside a coffee shop and it felt great ✅✅✅ Was happy to do it and felt safer around the people near me. Hope this is everywhere soon.
I’ve started being honest with people when they ask what I do. “I built a company for 8 years and recently sold it, so I’m taking a year off to figure out what to do next. And I have no idea what I’m going to do next.” 🤷🏻♀️
I just finished my first year angel investing on the side and 75% of the founders I’ve been lucky enough to back are Black women. It wasn’t hard to find them, and their companies are all amazing including
@ethelsclub
@somewheregood
@RootsDolls
@COIoptimizer
🚀
I’ve gotten pretty good at investing during quarantine. I’m essentially making a salary off of my options trading and have started getting into OTC/pink sheets along with my typical ETFs, crypto, and long term holds. Also, angel investing on the side ☺️
For those coming at me for “bragging” 😂, some context: I worked hard for 12 years to get here. I bootstrapped my company with ZERO venture capital + my goal as an angel is to fund underrepresented founders. Also, we need more women in this game so...👋
I miss my husband this holiday, he’s on call consistently for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, all of Hanukkah, my birthday, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Remember to thank doctors and nurses and others who are staffing hospitals for those who need them during this time. ❤️🎄
It’s almost
#IWD2018
, here are some phrases you can use instead of “empowering women,” which really doesn’t mean anything:
Paying women.
Promoting women.
Believing women.
When we started helping companies hire more women in tech 5 years ago at
@jointechladies
, we had no idea we’d be living though the biggest shift in hiring in our lifetime
Now we’re in position to 100x how many women work in tech, get paid $ + grow their careers
Let’s go!
@mmpadellan
He didn’t write this. It was screengrabbed from a tweet storm by a woman named Renee Torres who was bullied off of Twitter after posting it.
People aren’t asking for their workplaces to solve huge systemic issues in the outside world. Workplaces can’t do that anyway.
But they are asking for there to be empathetic space held during times of collective trauma (like when your people are being systematically murdered).
I’m passionate about bootstrapping, sure, but venture capital is the way for many companies depending on the scope/scale/speed that they are building.
Also, I’m involved in both and I want women building companies to consider talking bold bets no matter what way they finance 💅
All doctors, nurses and HCW should have their student loans completely forgiven after all this.
They are on the frontlines of this war and never expected to be.
Ideally forgiveness for all, but especially those putting their lives on the line during this unprecedented crisis.
