If I was the ruler I would secretly fund and promote conspiracy theory culture. I would want the masses believing that everything was by my design, and as such any and all resistance would be futile. Some in governance have forgotten this.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard leading American intellectuals declare the empire to be dead. It was in Foreign Policy magazine after the Super Bowl in 2009.
This whole August has had incredible “waning days of a dying empire” energy.
