The Liberals say that setting a social media minimum age is bad for productivity. What planet are they living on? A productive childhood isn’t doomscrolling – it’s adventure play and free-range childhoods. Let’s let kids be kids. #auspol

Today we pause on Vietnam Veterans’ Day to honour all who served during the Vietnam War. 18 August also marks the anniversary of the 1966 Battle of Long Tan. Lest we forget.

Through a series of interviews in Appalachia, one of America's top sociologists explores a psychological double-whammy: the US communities that have suffered the worst job losses tend to be places where people believe that effort, not luck, determines success. #auspolreaders

On the 78th Indian Independence Day, we celebrate a nation of extraordinary history and a vital partner for Australia. I’ve loved visiting India, and I’m proud to represent a diaspora that enriches our suburbs, champions women and carries its heritage into the future. #auspol

Today is Victory in the Pacific Day, 80yrs since WWII ended. Out of a population of 7m Australians, almost 1m served & 40,000 died. My 84-year-old dad was just a tot at the time, but vividly remembers the moment people heard that war was over, celebrating with dancing & tears.

At the SA Centre for Economic Studies @UniofAdelaide Luncheon I asked: what can sport teach us about productivity & the economy? It shows fairness & excellence can go hand in hand. The underdog gets a shot, and the champion must keep earning their place:

Liberal Senator Andrew Bragg’s “5000 new regs” claim is like a Hydra: debunk it once, it roars back twice as loud. 🐉 Truth? Under Labor, the total’s down, and some rules cut red tape, keep kids safe & make life easier. We’re not anti-rules. Just anti dumb ones. #auspol

Some say you can’t fix a housing shortage by building homes – we’re proving them wrong. 57 new apartments in Gungahlin, close to shops, schools & transport, with spaces that bring neighbours together. Proud to partner with @ACTLabor to get more Canberrans into homes:.

For the 3rd time in 6 months, the RBA’s cut interest rates. For a $700k mortgage, that’s $109/month back in your pocket, or $4,000 a year thanks to the last 3 rate cuts. Inflation’s down ✅.Unemployment’s low ✅.Real wages are growing ✅. #auspol #ausecon

Today, @DaveSmithMP and I greeted the Sri Chinmoy Peace Torch runners outside Parliament House, just hours after the Albanese Government announced Australia will recognise the State of Palestine. Serendipitous timing for a team that’s run 15,000km in the name of peace. #auspol
