Fundamentally, our work demonstrates that mechanisms driving motion in other physical contexts such as gasses, also extend to dynamics generated at the scale of tissues.

Our work suggests that the slope of a stiffness gradient, not just the absolute tissue stiffnesses, can tune the rate of morphogenesis in vivo.

We developed a novel biophysical model that provides a simple framework to understand how feedback between stiffness-induced differentiation and cell motility generates can self-propagating wave that expands at a speed set by the stiffness gradient across the tissue.

Our main findings: - We find a novel mechanism to drive collective motion DOWN a stiffness gradient. Therefore, our work demonstrates an entirely new alternate mechanism for stiffness-mediated collective mesenchymal motility in vivo.

Super excited to share with y'all a new mechanism for collective motility in living tissues which can learn about in our latest preprint.🎉 Check it out! https://t.co/CO3Cyt2eBi

Cell motility is a key feature of tissue morphogenesis, and it is thought to be driven primarily by the active migration of individual cells or collectives. However, this model is unlikely to apply...

So good to science with these guys
#lockdown has slowed time so much I went backwards six years! Zoom lab meeting with postdoc alums @ksedzinski, @tablerlab, and @Asakos01. More, more, morphogenesis! Thanks, guys, for the lovely chat.
