It was written my Google RSβs with PhDs and peer reviewed for NeurIPS, what on earth are you talking about Nate??? Iβm also not sure what someone not in the field would get from reading that paper. Itβs written for a specific technical audience.
The most important research paper of the past 10 years is the Google transformer paper ("Attention Is All You Need") and it was written by non-academics and published in an open-access journal.

Remember this study about how LLM generated research ideas were rated to be more novel than expert-written ones? We find a large fraction of such LLM generated proposals (β₯ 24%) to be skillfully plagiarized, bypassing inbuilt plagiarism checks and unsuspecting experts. A π§΅
Automating AI research is exciting! But can LLMs actually produce novel, expert-level research ideas? After a year-long study, we obtained the first statistically significant conclusion: LLM-generated ideas are more novel than ideas written by expert human researchers.
