I’m not 100% certain that micro-gig policies will never work, but damn there is a lot of work to put in and I’m not sure that the same people who could pull it off aren’t much better served pointing their energy at much higher ROI activities.

You finally get this heavy shoe box and lug it to the bank. To end up with like $45 or $70. Sure, it’s a lot of money as a kid, but at some point you realize that some banks have machines that will do it for free or the grocery store machine will do it for a fee.

Then the reality of how much it sucks to actually roll them by hand sets in. You get pretty good at it, and then you have one that unfolds at the back when you’re folding the top (poof all fifty in a pile again).

It’s like when you were little and got really excited about rolling all the coins from the piggy bank or coin jar. The anticipation is high. You can just see the $’s that will be yours after you roll them all up and turn them in.

Why won’t micro-gig work insurance work? In the wake of the Thimble news I found myself in a conversation about some of the experiments we ran in the early days of Coterie Insurance. I think I found the perfect analogy to sum up writing micro-gig work insurance policies.

Genuinely asking… isn’t there pure asymmetrical downside to this decision?

For what it's worth: LOOP banks with SVB — and will remain with SVB. End of story.

Why are startups hard? It’s really just 1 reason. Every truly hard decision you make feels like you’re laying down a monster. You don’t 100% know that you’re beat but you’ve got to make the move that gives you the best chance to win based on what you know.

Insurtech peeps. Does it feel like the twitter algorithm has changed and we actually get more relevant insurtech stuff from people we aren’t connected to now? Some is likes and retweets but it seems like it’s more relevant content overall.

Thinking about objectives for my team for 2023. I can’t think of anything better than: MAKE NEW MISTAKES That’s it. That’s the objective.

Insurtech predictions for 2023: . . . The people building and implementing into the market are going to win. The big winners don’t even know exactly what they will find out yet.

The single biggest unsolved problem to advancing small commercial insurance is classification. Prove me wrong. Name a bigger issue.
