In the AI GPU gold rush, Nvidia sells all the shovels, and they know it. It's more economical for China to take a new/used RTX 4090 gaming graphics card, strip out unneeded parts, and cram in a bunch of extra vRAM, than it is to buy an enterprise card from Nvidia.
@maphumanintent I was talking to a friend a few days ago, and he said there are small grey market networks of chinese citizens in the US that just drive around advertising that they'll buy certain GPUs on FB marketplace and gathering them up to ship to China. Particularly in AZ.

@dayetweets As a small manufacturer, I ship daily with Old Dominion. Our regular driver told us today, last Friday, his terminal told 8 out of 25 drivers to stay home, which is unheard of in the summer.
