Ok, a few more thoughts on some of the things we saw in this week’s PLA parade. I’ll start in the undersea domain, with this large UUV. Going back and looking at the footage, you can see in this shot that it appears to have a couple of sonar arrays.

All the straits/choke points, off India's eastern seaboard (Malacca, Sunda, Lombak, Ombai - Wetar), are important for peninsular India. Similarly, equally important off the western seaboard, are the choke points of Cape of Good Hope, Gulf of Aden, Red Sea, Persian Gulf.

Malacca is important. Yes. However, as the ship size goes up…the ‘economy of scale’ kicks in. The Straits of Sunda, Lombok and (even) Ombai-Wetar are increasingly gaining in importance. A longer route for a bigger (huge) ship is still more economical than a smaller route for

Interesting news on Brazil -France co-operation for building 4 SSKs & 1 SSN. For the SSN, planned be ready by abt 2034, the reactor will be Brazilian, while France designs the rest. 2 SSKs are in service & one undergoing sea trials.
