If there were only 15 Muntjac and 15 Grey Squirrels left in the UK I'd be even happier. Govt agencies can be remarkably efficient when they're in the mood.

Counting #greypartridge at our @Gameandwildlife long-term study site in Sussex, England, is always a highlight of my field season. This is our 58th year, of which I have been part of the last 20. Having a large covey walk past close by gets me excited every time.

Britain’s new Defra Secretary, Emma Reynolds, told @NFUtweets heavyweights this morning that her perfect day starts with a bacon roll and ends with steak and chips. Upbeat young Defra staffers were surprised, I think, when I told them that every farmer I know feels this

Great to be here in the sunshine (and showers) the Agroforestry Show with @SaveTurtleDoves
@SophieMott93 was talking about agroforestry and nature at 12, and we're here all day and tomorrow @SoilAssociation

Just returned from a fabulous IUGB/Perdix/Wildlife congress in Norway where I chaired all Galliformes related talks. My own talk highlighted the need for collaborative working between hunters, farmers, conservationists & Governments to achieve national #greypartridge recovery.

Since beginning of September in NE Poland we have influx of Red-footed Falcons, but today it reached the maximum I know. In the morning they were everywhere - I saw at least a total of 40 individuals in an hour in six different locations not far from each other on Biebrza Marshes

Out on the evening dog walk. The last few nights I’ve heard these calling but I don’t know what they are. Can anyone ID? Much louder than a grasshopper. In the tree canopy over the lane.

This is my favourite 'Phoenix From the Flames' from Baddiel and Skinner. Peter Beardsley's outstanding acting and singing skills very much on display here. A man of so many talents. This is wonderful, frivolous fun. Enjoy.

We’re proud to team up with @VegPowerUK for #Snacktember 🍏🍐 Together we’re encouraging families to swap processed snacks for fresh fruit & veg. British apples & pears = tasty, affordable & grown with care right here in the UK 💚 #BackBritishFarming #AttackTheSnack

I would urge @EmmaforWycombe to tackle this imminent tragedy she inherits from her predecessor as the first best means to provide an immediate, positive impact for nature, climate & food production. Would go a long way to building bridges shattered in last 12 months.

Headlines of the military parade in Tianenman Square had me reaching for my May 1999 notebook. 12 Night Herons over back then.

Remembering Mark Smart, on his birthday. Mark was the architect of so much breeding wader habitat in the UK, replacing some of the previous losses. Gone too soon. (1967-2024) Blog about his work: https://t.co/3dQMddzCpW

I love this paragraph by Rackham about Nutting back in the day. Here in Stutton, we go 'Onioning' (with permission of the 'keeper of course). There was no debauchery.

Among the autumn-brown, slices of gold make an occasional appearance in the moth trap. This is a female FOUR-SPOTTED FOOTMAN. The males are spotless. #moths
