Don't remake good games. Make new good games. Don't reboot good games, reboot poor games that had a good premise.

Devs should balance stamina, players should stop relying on convenience features that are actually just reducing the skill ceiling of the game.

How do you determine "outside of combat"? Determining this can be very expensive and it needs to happen continually. But then, Stamina becomes radar. "Oh, my Stamina is going down, someone is going to attack me.".

Put slightly differently, they wanted all the fun of writing the paranormal, all the tools that gives you access to, without having to resolve it in the narrative. Without either making it inescapable, solvable, or impotent.

It is immensely disappointing when a horror movie attributes supernatural or paranormal elements to the events, and then it's just mental illness. That isn't compelling or interesting, that is all around us anyway. Like the writer wanted to have their cake and eat it too.

Graven is in this, and though the timing is coincidental, I just wrote a guide on the forums about how to avoid/mitigate the blockers we weren't able to get patched. (In short: two layers of save backups, play in full level segments instead of exiting mid-level).

On a related note I am regularly reminded of how much PC 90s history and non-modern FPS history has been gradually washed away by bad journalism, YouTubers, and AI is absorbing it all. Ran into someone who claims to be a big FPS fan, never heard the name Ritual Entertainment.

Mildly fascinated by the alternate reality where Hipnotic's deal with Virgin Records had finalized and we had gotten Scourge of Armagon with music from The Chemical Brothers. It was an interesting time; games could've really gone anywhere.

This is to say, though I haven't put much stock into LLMs before other than to stir the pot for a Confluence doc or act like a more involved Excel script. I wouldn't even say take it with a grain of salt on matters of fact. It can't even scrape MobyGames correctly.

I asked it about one of the major coders (FrikaC) and it went on at length about his level design philosophy and suggested I visit multiple mapping sites to learn more about him. Not a mention of FrikQCC, FrikBots, or his various mods.

If you press for a specific, it admits that Quake didn't require a video card. But how often are people pressing for a specific when it is a subject they know little about? They rarely do. They have faith in the source.

Quake 3 was announced as requiring a video card in March 13 1998 and was a noteworthy shakeup. In May 1998 Soldier of Fortune was announced and confirmed as hardware only as well. There may be a lesser-known game that required a card before q3a, but here it insists on Quake.

This is false. Quake did not require a graphics card and people to this day do work with its software renderer. GLQuake first saw public light on January 22nd 1997. Quake 2, Unreal, and even UT99 launched with software and hardware support, not requiring hardware.

A friend likened AI as a drunk at a bar who is ready to chat. Good for a yarn, but not for accuracy. It does seem like on matters of fact it reports the Average belief. Not necessarily the correct one. It hopes that it is correct. I asked ChatGPT a simple question for gamers.

I had to resist this quite a bit at the start of Graven. Other people thought it would be a twist that there were corrupt humans, or that the god was malevolent, and maybe you'd have to fight him.

Thanks @project_warlock @PWarlock_Dev for including Graven in the game! He was never fond of the burning sands after being exiled to them anyway. Having a blast so far! 79 achievements unlocked already.

People talking about Chocolate Quake reminds me that no matter how much they may claim to be hardcore fps fans or super old school or whatever. they don't know what a source port is or what can load what.

I'm enjoying Project Warlock 2 but in the course of trying to find the actual progression through the levels, I end up finding all of the secrets. I love secret finding but stumbling upon them when trying to actually progress is less rewarding.

Play more games, and note when they came out. People like to blather on about video games with the same awareness as waxing on about music after listening to Now That's What I Call Music 45 and checking out classics via Kidz Bop.
