"Volunteers cleaning up the pellets at Camber Sands have described it as "the worst single incident" they have encountered." I'm going to be down on the south coast this weekend. Perhaps the minister responsible Emma Hardy might like to join me at Camber Sands on Saturday

Millions of pellets, thought to have come from the Eastbourne treatment works, have been washed up at Camber Sands.

I have been watching hurricanes, reading about them, for decades and this is about as historic and horrific as it gets. Many, many people are about the have their lives turned upside down and some will not survive. Jamaica will need our help over the coming weeks and months.
The eye is almost there. #Melissa is going to make landfall soon. It’s got near perfect presentation which means that the winds over the island will be wreaking catastrophic damage within the eyewall.

From a crewmember on yesterday's Teal 74 mission into now-Category 5 Hurricane #Melissa. As clear of an eye as you will see in the Atlantic basin.

Never heard about @bookbanksuk? I really recommend discovering the amazing work this charity is doing bringing books into food banks. It's a simple idea that has a profound impact. And today is the last day of our fundraiser 'Books That Give': https://t.co/fMHvIJbQG5

Kudos to the US and UK Bookshop teams who worked together to launch at midnight. Nearly a quarter of UK readers are digital readers. Indie bookshops can now be part of that community, and those readers can support bookshops 😊

The "Fatfinger AI Economy" is a) definitely a thing and b) my lived experience of having AI tools shoved into every digital touch point at every opportunity. Nice to have a phrase for it!
"If your customers are too happy, you're leaving money on the table": it's the rallying cry of the enshittifier, and it's also what a friend of mine was told by a respected professor in a top-tier MBA program. 1/

"When American policy was organized to benefit most of us, technology meant The Jetsons. Since it’s now organized to consolidate power, it’s become Black Mirror." An absolute banger of a piece from Matt Stoller on AI and the coming jobpocalypse: https://t.co/LWaeqa6hVE

Yes, generative AI is transformational. Will it eliminate most entry-level jobs? That depends. Will we continue to demand excessive returns on capital? If so, then we're in trouble.
