New paper from Sam de Canio and Colin Jennings shows that competition functions like an experiment to reveal consumer preferences - and so neoclassical welfare economics has too narrow an understanding of the harms of monopoly.
🆕 Are competitive markets economic analogues to scientific experiments? . A new paper by Sam DeCanio and Colin Jennings applies arguments from studies of causal inference to understand competition and the problems created by monopoly power. More 👇.

Lmao gone full trump, she used to try to be a reasonable centrist. Wonder what the next wagon will be.
Former Democrat Batya Ungar-Sargon CALLS OUT Wall Street and PERFECTLY explains President Trump’s tariff policies. Leaves the entire panel SPEECHLESS. Just watch: . "The rich are punishing Trump for siding with the neglected American working class.”.

Yes, America has never engaged in panicked purges of academia in its history.
Academia easily could have persisted as an institutional setting where everyone *happens* to lean left, with surrounding society broadly accepting that as an eccentric feature—not unlike tweed jacket and armpatches and pipe—if the profession had stayed out of the interpartisan.

These are acts of disruptive disobedience as a form of protest. They are meant to inconvenience others. But it's a time honoured American tradition to worry more about minor disruption and inconvenience rather than the brutal militarism the protests are drawing attention to.
No, it's not. You have a right to protest, and I’ve defended that right more than practically anyone. You do NOT have a right to shut down other people's classes, their speakers or prevent them from studying in the frickin library. I am tired of people supporting mob censors,.

It's an amazing and unifying time for hack writers who decided to bandwagon on culture war bullshit to hide their lack of original ideas.
An amazing thing is happening to our nation—an amazing and unifying thing—and I feel so sorry for the small minority who are so bitter they can't appreciate or enjoy it.

There are valuable left critiques of DEI but I don't think that if avowed Marxists were in charge of American academia the backlash would be lessened . .
@MarxinHell Who’s more useful to the far right, those doubling down on neoliberal progressivism or those reminding everyone that a significant part of the left has been distancing itself from it for a long time?.
