In this blog I meet the ruby-tailed wasp and speculate on how cuckooing behaviour may have led to the evolution of social wasps and bees https://t.co/pZ3HhwKHyf

An unexpected encounter with a sand lizard got me thinking about how the law works - and how it doesn't. https://t.co/5NdUpelIFF

We all think our children are lovely, even if they aren't. But Spring is the time when our world repopulates, when our loss of biodiversity flows backwards for a short time. So let's celebrate the new arrivals - even the ugly ones. https://t.co/fEUTc2XiQ4

While it is unwelcome, criticism of Scotland's admission that it will miss a key climate pledge should be more measured. https://t.co/uFFqUjWAOh

Demonising minority groups. Suppressing lawful protest. Undermining the judiciary, while defining extremism as undermining the UK's values (which used to include slavery, child labour, and refusing votes for women). Welcome to Germany in the 1920s. I am no longer a swing voter.

You spend months as an egg, and then a caterpillar and a pupa. You finally get your wings. You launch into your first, glorious maiden flight... and three seconds later you're lunch for a brown hawker dragonfly. Not really fair, is it? #BBCWildlifePOTD #wildlifephotography

https://t.co/CcD76CKIBe In this blog I meet the highly endangered shrill carder bee at RSPN Newport Wetlands. Not as glamorous, perhaps, as the giant panda or African elephant, but just as important @Natures_Voice

It's not a dragon and those aren't boulders. This is a very young newt, about 30mm long, making the mistake of crossing a busy cycle path. It may be a palmate or smooth newt - it's impossible to ID at this age. Duly rescued! @ARC_Bytes @WiltshireARG @bbcwildlifemag
