Golden Oriole !!. Clicked this from one of the terraces of @ccmb_csir 🤩. The lush monsoon greens is such a perfect background to capture this bird. Super quick and very jumpy bird. Took me almost an hour of waiting to get a couple of good clicks. #AvianSaturdays 🦜🦚

Fantastic talk by @KamatLab_IISER on the fascinating biology of Lyso-PS and its profound role in various cellular processes!!. Thanks to @InfosysPrize @ccmb_csir @SomdattaKarak for putting this whole event together so well!!
Happening today at the PM Bhargava auditorium, 4pm onward - The @InfosysPrize lecture by Siddhesh Kamat. He will speak on lipids, specifically one called lysophosphotidylserine, and its implications on human disease. @CSIR_IND @KamatLab_IISER

Although this sounds stranger than science fiction, these are absolutely real and have been happening for ever. In next sunday’s thread, I'll go into the research that is being done in this area & how medically relevant #Cordyceps are to humans. Fungi are just Fascinating!!.

Many of us have seen the @TheLastofUsHBO where humans start to get infected with this fungal species called #Cordyceps and go crazy. Although, Entomopathogenic fungi can't infect humans, they cause devastating infections to a ton of insects. #Ants #Spiders #Moths you name it!!

Remarkably, studies have shown that, some bacteria even attract these nematode-killer fungi by producing ‘Urea’, to defend themselves against worms that feed on them 🤯🤯 Cross-Kingdom strategies. This article below from Nat Geo covers this beautifully .

When you’re the size of a human, you worry about lions and tigers and bears. But if you’re a bacterium, a tiny nematode worm, just a millimetre long, can be a vicious predator. Nematodes are among...

In the last ~15 years, quite a few groups have investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying how these #fungi execute these #nematode death traps. I have been fascinated by @fungi_worms Dr. Yen-Ping Hsueh lab’s work on this. This paper ⬇️ was such a tour de force 🤯
