I’m back home. It’s going to be a rough few weeks. Tonsillitis went nuclear & got into my blood. Couldn’t swallow or breath. We caught it really fast, hospital where fab too. Avoided full blown sepsis. Next 10 days is sleep, meds & managing side effects till we clear infection.

Local AI stuff has been handy. For example, yesterday I asked it for help with picking clothing suitable for the weather & if the 4.5kg limit on the washer is wet or dry clothes. It also helped me with some code stuff and some ADHD meds stuff. See my 💙 for details :).

This is… reassuring I guess. Nice to know there’s some people in the GOP who are pushing back and trying to keep us away from the worst outcomes. Wish he’d stood up earlier but something is better than nothing.

IBS can sod off. It’s always tricky when starting and stopping meds and this week is no exception. It should settle down in a few days!.

Working on a funky project today. I’ve written a script to migrate a bunch of content from one system to another… with accessibility fixes + translations being applied along the way. It’s very almost finished & the client is lovely. Hopefully can share more in the future :).

Having anaesthetic later today for a medicinal procedure. Nothing to worry about but it’s always a little surreal to have my brain toggled on and off for a few hours. Will be home tonight & back online tomorrow sometime. :).

The MacBook arrived yesterday and it’s sat in the box ready for our contractor to unpack and setup later today :). I know it’s trivial in the grand scheme of things, but it’s been a vast amount of work to get to this point. So far so good on the automated setup stuff :).

Whoops. Took some Sudafed to help with an incoming cold and managed to ruin my sleep!. Oh well. Starting my day super mega early instead :).

The power usage is also rather impressive, the CPU is consuming about 70w at the moment. About the same it uses when running a heavy game like cities skylines 2.

I mentioned running a huge AI model on my PC recently. I don’t have enough RAM so I’m using a SSD for swap. It works surprisingly well, the fast SSD can provide data roughly as quickly as the CPU needs it. It’s less of a bottleneck than I’d have assumed. it’s slow, but works :)

Productive day all in!. Rejigged my room to create a cosy spot in the corner. Sorting lots of clothes ready for the charity shop. Sorted a big box of games and took all the ones I didn’t want keep to the retro games store.

Had a small but cool milestone for @ERMILTD this week!. I’ve got all the Apple Buisness Manager stuff setup and brought a funky new MacBook Pro for our contract developer :). A little dollop of proper IT management & a massive upgrade to make someone smile. Win win :).

Up early today and thinking about a bedroom rejig…. Make myself a cosy corner for playing switch and chilling without being in bed or sat at my desk downstairs🕹️. It’s also puts my bed closer to the radiator so I don’t get as chilly! 🥶.

Had an interesting evening experimenting with some AI tools running on my Mac. It’s a little mind blowing that a single ~40gb download can do so much. Like a slightly daft version of Google that works offline. It’s weirdly impressive & rubbish at the same time.

Was chatting to someone about web performance today and stumbled on a magazine article I wrote for .net mag way back in 2016 !. Was a nice blast from the past. Its a nice explainer of how we handled caching at the BBC :).

New Macs benchmarks are very promising. Very tempted to sell my M1 MacBook Pro + Mac Studio setup and consolidate to a M4 MacBook Pro. The portability of the MacBook, the speed of the Mac Studio and easier than keeping two machines in sync :).
