πŸ”΄Breaking: After rescuing 160 people in two rescues last week, our ship Humanity 1 has been provisionally detained and placed under investigation in Ortona. Why? Because we refused to communicate with the Libyan authorities. 1/3

Grief, anger, outrage: when people drown in the Central Mediterranean, we will never stand by and watch! Every rescue opposes the normalisation of people dying at Europe’s external borders. Search and rescue is a self-evident necessity. It is a duty. And it is never in vain.

We are taking legal action against the detention of our rescue ship – at a cost of around €20,000. Every donation helps us and our crew to demand justice and uphold solidarity. Thank you for your support! πŸ‘‰ https://t.co/DXoMyvDFYO πŸ“·: Marcel Beloqui Evardone / SOS Humanity

Free Humanity 1! The 20-day detention of our rescue ship Humanity 1 is not legally justifiable. It is not rescuing people on the move from distress at sea that should be on trial, but the countless human rights violations committed by Libyan actors. 1/2

We reject Europe’s policy of closed doors: We oppose the erosion of asylum rights through #CEAS. We oppose illegal pullbacks to war and conflict zones. And we oppose the indifference that lets people drown in the Central Mediterranean. We stand together, hand in hand. 2/2

Yes. Yes. YES. When someone is drowning, you always reach out your hand. Period. Today, on #InternationalMigrantsDay, we state this loudly and unequivocally: we stand with all refugees and people on the move. 1/2

Very disturbed by the detention of the Humanity 1 search & rescue ship in #Italy & the €10,000 fine against the organisation for not communicating with the Libyan Rescue Coordination Centre. These sanctions demonstrate the paradoxical nature of Italy's approach to search &

Captain Loic Glavany warns: While #Humanity 1 has been unjustly detained in Italy for almost 3 weeks, people are dying every day in the Central Mediterranean! We are taking legal action against the detention. Support us now with a donation. πŸ‘‰ https://t.co/1Fv5ocyAQl

🚨 Protest! #Humanity1 is detained! Because we refuse to communicate with the Libyan Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, which coordinates the so-called Libyan coast guard: militias that shoot at people and rescue ships! Join us in protest today at 6:30 p.m. at Oranienplatz!

We do not communicate with human rights abusers. We will not communicate the location of distress cases and our operations to Libyan militias. #JusticeFleet

πŸ”΅ Piantedosi deemed unlawful: Agrigento Court suspends the detention of #Mediterranea. There is an illegal government strategy aimed at confiscating our rescue ship. But once again, it is defeated in the courts. Read our full press release in ENG πŸ‘‡πŸΎ https://t.co/O80oWqqqQD

For this, the Italian authorities have now unlawfully detained our rescue ship Humanity 1 for 20 days and fined us €10,000. This is completely unacceptable – we are taking legal action. 2/3

❌ No way! We will not collaborate with anyone who uses violence against refugees and breaks human rights. As a result, we have suspended all operational communication with the Libyan authorities, in accordance with international law and together with the #JusticeFleet. 1/3

Libyan units such as the so-called Libyan Coast Guard abuse and even kill people on the move, and fire on humanitarian ships – without consequences. They are even rewarded by the EU and its member states with financing, training, and patrol boats. 3/4

Our rescue ship #Humanity1 is the first ship of the #JusticeFleet Alliance to be punished for refusing operational communication with Libyan authorities. These authorities are responsible for severe human rights violations and are not legitimate actors in search and rescue. 2/4
