This is absolute fucking bullshit. Elected officials out here being cronies for private industry instead of making Louisianians' lives easier, safer, and more affordable. Guess I'll go pay my $500 @EntergyNOLA bill now...
Today, 3 members of the @la_psc decided to dismantle over a decade of work towards providing a program that would meaningfully bring down costs for Louisiana ratepayers at a luxury golf resort for no other reason than that they’d rather let utilities continue business as usual.

My colleagues over here doing the accountability thing over how bad COP29 outcomes are for life + the planet 👇
Fresh 2025 reading: @CIEL_tweets's #COP29 report with a focus on #HumanRights & #ClimateChange. Spoiler alert: it wasn't good. From backtracking on human rights & gender to a weak finance outcome, accelerated carbon markets and L&D largely ignored. 🔗 https://t.co/QSqiDpPXUZ

“This burden of petrochemical development ... crowds out the promise of jobs and taxes. The underlying fact of history of racial injustice exacerbates this trend,” write @ieefa_institute LA is still a plantation economy. https://t.co/G7B0MVWafy

The two most important drivers of the state’s petrochemical industry—ethylene and methanol—are areas that are being proposed for expansion, even as demand is slowing and risk factors mount.

We're being left broken + impoverished because of this industry, its tax exemptions, + its undue political power in Washington, in Baton Rouge, + in parish seats. And it's getting WORSE: there are dozens of expansions + new toxic chemical production planned for LA. 3/

#Louisiana's oil, gas, + chemicals industries have been damaging the state for decades - devastating our coastlines, drinking water, soil, air, and our very bodies. They used to at least pay a significant portion of our state revenue + employ our workers. But not anymore: 2/

LA state revenue from oil + gas in 1982: 43% LA state revenue from oil + gas in 2022: 4.5% That's not a typo. That's an ORDER OF MAGNITUDE *reduction* in tax $$, while the industry has *grown* in political power. 🤬🤬 New from @ieefa_institute: https://t.co/G7B0MVWI56 1/

#BREAKING: We’re suing ExxonMobil for a decades-long campaign of deception that perpetuated the plastic waste and pollution crisis. ExxonMobil peddled #RecyclingLies to further its recording-breaking profits at the expense of our planet. We’re holding ExxonMobil accountable.

This @FT article makes clear: to negotiate a #PlasticsTreaty that fails to reduce plastic production is to sacrifice human health. With INC-5 just months away, the US must show courage by publicly crystalizing its support for plastic production reduction.

Disgusting, but unfortunately something they've been doing for decades.
Fossil fuel spokespeople ask Louisiana academic to help promote carbon capture. Air Products University. Major move to buy Louisiana #highered leaders. It’s working. https://t.co/udX9YxdbIm

Did you know? 🤔 Firefighting foam contains toxic "forever chemicals". people living alongside the facilities that make this stuff - or the firefighter training grounds - are exposed. And the companies know it, too😡 They're just going to keep doing this until WE MAKE THEM stop.
EXCLUSIVE: The parent company of the firm located in the most PFAS polluted place in the UK has spent £5 million defending 9,000 PFAS-related legal cases in the US dating back to 2016. But how did it end up here? And is the worse yet to come? 🧵 https://t.co/UfCC0qS29I

My therapist actually banged her head on the table during our session today. Does this mean I've won therapy? Did we get her? I think we got her!

I wrote about a new study that found worse mental health impacts in people who are trying to get pregnant and live near fracking wells. This is an under-studied time period that could have a substantial impact on health during and after pregnancy.
