Solar panels covering those rail-road ties in between train tracks, all the way to "Morningtown". conceived in Switzerland, soon I am sure to go global #PossibleWithSolar @swissolar_f @swissolar_d #SunWays.

Solar generation and air con are often correlated, so this is no surprise, even if the evening peak / duck curve needs max battery storage #Ember

Pakistan: the darling of the global solar boom. The speed, the scale, took everyone off guard. Huge congrats to the Pakistan Solar Association @RenewablesFirst #PossibleWithSolar.

(The fact that you shouldn’t trust the initial speculation in the press minutes after the story breaks isn’t a lesson - I would hope everyone knew that already. Whenever you see a quote or interview that starts with “well, we don’t have all the facts, but…” - run a mile!).

Third, that grids need batteries with grid-forming inverters (instead of grid-folllwing tech), that can support the frequency and voltage when things go wrong and also provide black start and reactive power. Look out for the @GSolarCouncil report on this with SMA Solar and.

Second, that to go big on #solar and wind you also need lots of hydro (ideally with the ability to pump it uphill too) and masses of battery storage. Spain has a good amount of the former, but no way near enough of the latter. Other long storage also important.

There are three real lessons from the Spanish blackout. First, that Spain needs to update its grid management infrastructure, systems and protocols. This was the main cause - not solar. #Spain #Blackout.

Solar PV did not cause the blackout in Spain and Portugal - it was a lack of capacity to control voltage. We must learn from this. Smart grid-forming inverters (the machines that turn DC to AC, and can support voltage) and lots more battery storage are the solution.

Somalia has less than 30% electrification and so much potential for #solar and storage. Fantastic to have Mr Bashir Mohamed, Chair of @SOGEA15 the #Somalia green energy association, a new member, at the Global Solar Council office today #PossibleWithSolar

We still don't know what caused the Spanish blackout, but this article (which also quotes Jose Donoso of UNEF Spain) is worth a read as one perspective. @Telegraph.

We need the new grid capacity for large scale solar to connect and deliver bulk power, but countries also need to build out behind the meter solar to make the energy transition more efficient. A balance between the two is key.
