Points of appeal will include: “whether a conscientious motivation should be treated as mitigation, and whether throwing soup on glass should be sentenced as an act of violence, if it caused some damage to the frame,” according to Defend our Juries.

Already there's talk of #COP29 running into the weekend as negotiations over a finance deal struggle to get off the ground. A trend analysis places our gavel at 3:25am on Sunday (just 33.5 hours late). But will the Baku presidency manage to tame negotiations sooner?

It's likely #COP29 will overrun. But by just how much is harder to say. Since COP1 in 1995, there's been a trend for longer and longer COPs – peaking at a whopping 44 hours overrun in 2019. Last year's COP overran by a modest 23 hours, making it the shortest in 6 years.
