However, when we speak about improving function as coaches, we may use exercise to improve aerobic function (although this should hold true in the rehab space as well)

For example, a physio using the phrase "improve function" might be referring to restoring a physical ability. This might be range of motion, which exercise most certainly improves.

It is probably best that physios refrain from commenting on posts by S & C coaches and vice versa because you are probably going to end up opining on different things that happen to have overlap in terminology (e.g. function, ability, and pain [chronic vs recurring]) #functional

Discipline is knowing it's easier to get angry and lash out, but instead to exercise restraint and understanding. Discipline is knowing it's easier to detach and let situations get out of hand, but instead to take ownership and seek out solutions. Discipline makes us better.

One thing that amazes me is how willfully people buy into the notion that a specific indulgence food is making them fat, while completely ignoring the fact they have adopted a habit of indulging in response to life stress. Sugar isn't the problem. It's how you manage the stress.

The work you do and the sacrifices you make will never be more important than the reasons or people you do it for. Don't mix up your priorities. Spend your time on this Earth wisely. #sacrifices #theimportantthings #lovedones #familybeforework

It is astounding to me how some in the "evidence based" community profess that the best routine is the one you can stick to, while also endlessly excoriating people's routines because of the "evidence" #hypocrisy #evidencebased #sciencebased

Real fitness experts dont give you the one magic bullet that applies to everyone... They give you several possible solutions that can work equally well depending on how you implement and respond to them #notimeforbullshite #getreal #charlatans #fitness #thosewhoknow

I dont think I've seen someone normally so well armed in their talking points be so woefully incoherent. I guess that's what happens when you have a program designed to be an echo chamber for your own biases

I don't watch @RealTimers anymore because I can't stand @BillMaher's antivax (as well as other) bullshit anymore, not to mention that he just isn't that funny anymore, but good on @SethMacFarlane for calling him out for his antivax nonsense.

Seth MacFarlane is better at making the case for vaccines than any public official or medical expert I’ve seen. Here he demolishes Bill Maher’s stupid assumptions and anecdotal “evidence” https://t.co/D3FOGCJG26

Barriers to action and calls to action are two fundamentally different things: if you have a problem (e.g. eating well), and your solution (e.g. meal prep) presents a perceived barrier (e.g. time management & kitchen skills), it is a CALL to action, not a BARRIER. #skillbuilding

When you make a recommendation based on epidemiological findings, you unknowingly self-select a new population. If your reason to walk 8000 steps /day is because there's a + correlation with health, then you are doing it for a different reason than the original study subjects.

Developing an eating disorder and joining a cult can result in weight loss, along with the belief that you've discovered the hidden secrets of nutrition the world order is trying to cover up.

Sometimes, solutions to problems are also important opportunities to challenge your beliefs: in yourself and in ideologies. For that reason, people avoid the discomfort of problem solving in the same way that they may avoid the discomfort of challenge. #challenge

That time a 9-year-old skeptic named Emily Rosa debunked energy healing (a pseudoscientific alternative medicine treatment) and published in a top medical journal.

Just ran a population health analysis on our Type 2 diabetes cohort. 💡100% with HbA1c ≤7% (ADA recommended level) 💡Average A1c reduction is -2.76% I knew @accomplishHLTH had an effective diabetes program, but this even surprised me a bit.

I take issue with the off handedness of the comment "exercise is ineffective for weightloss". That is true only if we evaluate its ability to CAUSE it. However, it is false if evaluated on its ability to SUPPORT it. Lastly, 💪 has benefits beyond WL, and not all WL is healthy

Making your own decisions and assuming responsibility for your choices and their outcomes is essential to growth. You can not gain genuine confidence from or take authentic pride in commitments you don't make, work you don't do, or results you don't earn. #autonomy
