Tenerife, London, and now Madrid. Biologist, nurse, and clinical trials coordinator in infectious diseases. Science, iced lattes, long summers, and palm trees.
Last night at work. Nurse: Alfredo have you watched the handmaid’s tale? / me: yeah! I love that show / him: go look at yourself in a mirror / so this is what I look like when I walk around with the visor up...praise be!
This morning I went to Clapham Common to get a coffee and go for a walk. When I left pret an American woman, pointing at the common, said to her friend: “and that’s where the gays congregate”
ITU: it’s been a pleasure. I’ve been told I can go back to HIV Research. I was asked if I wanted a job in ITU, but I’d rather do a few shifts a month to keep the skills (much needed if there’s a second wave!). PrEP Impact trial, here I come
Got my MSc in Nursing at King’s. I asked people living with HIV in the USA and Spain about their preferences reg long-acting injectable vs oral ARVs. Not the grade I expected, but 8 months with no annual leave, redeployments to ICU, many, many extra hours at work…I’m proud of it
Had my exit interview today and I felt so sad when I told my manager that it was the awful property market what made me look for a job outside London. Rent is out of control and with the salary of a nurse living alone I will never be able to buy anything in this city.

This is why the actual education system doesnt work. Let kids play and explore, rather than forcing them to memorize facts that they’ll forget once they have passed those awful exams.
Someone I used to work with, who has a BSc and an MSc in Biomed, asked me today if covid was real. She also said that big brother is watching, and that the vaccine is a perfect opportunity for them to inject trackers into us.
Turned 35 yesterday. Had a quiet morning in the park with a good book and an iced coffee, then drinks with some friends. It was 28C, and not a single cloud! Couldn’t have asked for more
ICU. The best: the amazing team! Everyone’s lovely. The worst: the pressure sore I got on my nasal bridge. It might look like it’s nothing, but trust me, it’s painful!
Tenerife and La Palma have stunning night skies. More than 60 telescopes from 20 different countries are permanently based here. I have a super basic one but you can still see many things, and I used it last night to take this photo of the moon.
So: I got the job. Say hello to Alfredo, staff nurse in HIV/Oncology at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Currently enjoying the sun for a week before heading to London.
Did an extra shift in ICU to keep up with the skills as being redeployed again could happen in the next few weeks. Loved the team, and the new ICU unit 👌🏻
THANK YOU to the amazing people I met in London over the last 10 years. What an experience! Hopefully Madrid will be the right decision (otherwise I’ll run back to Clapham!)
The more I read it the more I like it. Dune is a sci-fi masterpiece. Lady Jessica is my favourite character, and Rebecca Ferguson did an amazing job in the latest movie.
