You were an absolute pleasure, thanks for coming and contributing!
Trying to summarize and encapsulate all the amazing food, places and people that I've met on this Ultimate Melbourne Food Tour is hard but I'll try. Thanks again @sofiaklevin @STravellerHQ. Thread incoming.

Veal spleen sandwich for breakfast anyone? The latest ep of #TheUglyDucklingsofItalianCuisine celebrates Palermo's thriving street food scene with @sofiaklevin @SBSitalian. Listen now in your podcast app! 🐄 https://t.co/5RN6ZB0wux

The Sicilian capital Palermo is a street food paradise and one must-try delicacy is pani câ meusa - literally 'bread with spleen'. It's a sloppy panino with an unmistakable smell that is much loved...

When Michael Samsir's team was retrenched at Telstra, he didn't wait to endure the same fate. Inspired by his family's Jakarta noodle shop, he started PBK Noodles here. He's in @sofiaklevin's list of Melbourne's producers making auspicious LNY ingredients.

Have you noticed how flaky people are in lockdown? Organising a walk or Zoom wine ahead of time is nearly impossible. We’re overwhelmed and committing to anything right now just feels, well, hard....

Earthquake or elaborate plot to restart the construction industry? 🤔

Fires. Pandemic. Riots. #Earthquake. I’ve seen this film, it doesn’t end well. Less of a hint from Mother Nature, more of a grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-scream, “WTAF are you all doing?” Are you listening yet?

On @3AW693 food this morning we chatted upskilling in lockdown. @RossAndRussel were keen to know the hardest food to make from scratch. I reckon it’s camel turducken: a chook stuffed in a duck in a Turkey in a sheep in a camel. Lockdown project?

When you visit a cafe or restaurant over lockdown, don’t just check in with a QR code; check in with the person on the other side of the counter, too. Melbourne wouldn’t be Melbourne without hospitality.

So, what can you do? The only thing more infectious than COVID is kindness. Get out there and support hospo. Buy the produce that’s going to go to waste, tip where you can, order direct for delivery/takeaway & get extra to go when you pick up.

100s of 1000s of $ worth of produce will end up in landfill. Food bank charities can’t access it all, & there’s the humongous expense for restaurants. Staff will go without work (& many without support). You’re going to hear about some v sad closures over the next few weeks.

Snap lockdowns like this — necessity aside — are completely devastating for restaurants, cafes, bars, caterers and all the staff, suppliers, logistics people and more attached to this intricate web that enables you to dine out in one of the best food cities in the world.

Today is a sad day in hospitality. Here’s a thread with what I didn’t have time to say during this morn’s review with @RossAndRussel… (FYI it was Welive for Hotpot, a Japanese resto that’s the most COVID-friendly spot in Melb out of lockdown https://t.co/likatgWMjM)
3aw.com.au
In a sentence: solo sukiyaki and hotpot straight out of Tokyo The damage: allow $60 to 80 per head for the full experience Top tip: the sets are the best bet for first timers #EatCuriously: try fish...
