First pull from my first dildo mold vs first pull from my last dildo mold. Silicone toy making involves a long and expensive learning process, and I’m so appreciative of makers who share their knowledge. I wouldn’t even have been able to afford the trial and error without y’all.

When I can’t justify keeping another sellable one of my own models, I like to make myself a frankenpour with leftover silicone while I’m focusing on making other things.

I’m curious as to how many toy makers stumbled into the craft accidentally because they were doing something with overlapping skill sets and how many were (like me) just perverts who wanted to make more interesting/functional/attractive toys.

Okay, I’m determined to get a shop up and running soon! I’ve just gotta let go of perfectionism and get some personal logistics worked out. I’m thinking maybe I’ll soft launch on Etsy sometime in the next month and aim to have a site up by late May.

Something that surprised me as I stumbled into the fantasy community was how many collectors were averse to seeing in-use content. As a former, maybe returning SWer and friend to many, and also as a toy maker psyched to see people enjoying my work, I’d love to work with content

I was pretty ambivalent about fantasy makers calling themselves goblins as someone who’s not into D&D. Now that my 3D printer is in the short part of the basement and I hobble there from my room (also in the basement) all hunched over all the time, I’m really starting to feel it.

Why do tutorials seem totally overwhelming until I’m totally overwhelmed by all the issues I’m having that could have been solved by watching a tutorial before getting started? Anyway, I poured a few grinders to boost my confidence after all my 3D printing struggles.

Guess I won’t be using Near Clear for my personal frankenpours. Might try it with itself, as I poured this 00-45 on top of cured 00-50. I’ve never seen silicone just peel so cleanly off with no adhesion at all, though.

Just ordered a bigger vacuum chamber, so maybe I can finally play with Near Clear when I’m back home. I bought some sample kits when I first started pouring, but after struggling to keep 00-50 from bubbling over during degassing, I knew NC would be too much for my current setup.

This actually isn’t quite as bad a flop as I expected. The base is short because I ran out of silicone, and the bottom is wonky because I held that thing in by hand for an hour before using the wrench lol. It stands up, and the attachment hole is viable, though.

A great thing about making toys as a collector is that it satisfies my desire to constantly acquire new ones. Now that I’m away from home and not making several a day, I am once again struggling with The Hunger. Can you other makers please just release ugly pours for a few weeks?

Well I’ve got something really exciting in the works, but I somehow made it too big to keep editing in Nomad, and when my roommate opens it and deletes polygons in another program, it ends up full of holes. I’m stumped, but I’m really hoping to get this figured out soon!

How do you sell at markets that aren’t specifically sexy? I feel like sometimes I’m in places where people should want my toys, but lots aren’t sure what they are and are too shy to ask or even get close. Infographics? Pamphlets? A big sign saying, “No, they’re NOT candles 😈”?
