This is another reason why I love Rails InertiaJS. Making desktop app based on current frontend code is really easy. Imagine doing this with server render html @@!

YouTube's algorithm sucks for studying. So I built https://t.co/WaRncV67Wn 📺 It uses AI Vision to "read" code on screen and index Gems/Patterns missed in descriptions. Stack: Ruby 3.4.7 + Rails 8 + Inertia + Shadcn Try it: 👉 https://t.co/F0Zh7rtrM2

And here's a quick example based on the React starter kit. It lacks the full power of this integration, so consider this an invitation to play around:

This pull request introduces a new serialization and type safety system for Inertia.js shared props and page data, using the Alba and Typelizer gems.

If you're using Inertia.js with Rails and TypeScript, check out the new alba-inertia gem. It uses convention over configuration, making refactorings a breeze. Just a sneak peek. Full article on our current Inertia Rails setup coming next year (I hope).

With the existence of Inertia.js, I really think you've got to be a masochist to try and build delightful, interactive apps without using a framework designed for UI to build the UI. It's just such an uphill battle otherwise, and I don't understand why you'd do it.

Consequently, the only real ecosystem of UI components for Rails is InertiaJS. Rails developers don’t reach for it because “it’s JavaScript”, they reach for it because it’s the only sane ecosystem for building UI’s with pre-built components in Rails.
The amount of hoops plugin developers have to jump through is insane. @adrianthedev tells the story about distributing the Marksmith gem and the permutations of asset pipeline integrations required 😵💫 This is why so many people reach for React for the front-end.

The first ever Inertia Rails workshop, can't wait!
Inertia Rails workshop speakers Inertia.js solves a huge pain point for server side MVC frameworks: clean integration with rich client-side libraries like React, Vue, and Svelte. Inertia Rails allows both sides of this equation to shine. Link to sign up below 👇
