It's kinda sad that Rieko Kodama was not more highly celebrated in the gaming community. She was involved in the development of Phantasy Star, Altered Beast, Alex Kidd in Miracle World and a little game called Sonic the Hedgehog. All the games she was involved in were big reasons…
I just saw this on Facebook and as much as I loved gaming in the 90's we always gloss over the crap that happened then as well.
Name something crap about gaming in the 90's.

A huge shout out goes to
@Segamastertim
for sending me this unique piece of Sonic history. This was a Sonic keyring merch sample that Sega rejected. After they binned it Tim ran out and bin dived to save it.
I think it looks cool and reminds me of Sonic's Rad Mobile debut.
This badge is pretty important to me. When I first started working with Sega a guy came up to me and said "we want you to have this. Welcome to the team" and gave me this badge. It was my first full time job and the first time I felt I truly belonged somewhere.

If I get 5000 likes for this post then I'll be able to get four ex Sega hotline staff members together to do a video about the crazy calls we use to get on the Sega Hotline.
Can we get a like and share to make this happen?
When I first started watching YouTube on a regular basis back in the mid 10's my suggested videos were full of guys standing in front of their gaming collection talking about gaming.
I miss that.
Her first title was Champion Boxing which was also Yu Suzuki's first title as well. This was limited however due to the SC-3000's hardware but gave them a start in game development.
Perhaps one of Reiko's most celebrated contributions to gaming was her involvement in Phantasy Star. The graphical style of this game at the time was ambitious and simply beautiful. This would be my introduction to JRPG's.
In 1991 Reiko's involvement in Sonic The Hedgehog would pull her away from any involvement in Phantasy Star III. Sega wanted their All Star dev team on Sonic and in hindsight this was the correct decision.
She then went on to work on The Black Onyx for the SC-3000. This is a title I am personally not familiar with but it was to go down as one of the first Japanese language RPG's introducing the locals to the world of RPG's. Possibly the origin of JRPG's lie here?
Of all the changes to gaming over the years I feel that the toughest one to deal with has been the loss of arcades.
Who here use to head to the arcades and what's your favourite gaming memory there?
Another day another Sydney Sega World relic surfaces online. This is currently on sale on Facebook Marketplace up in Newcastle, Australia.
Only $300 but this will take a monumental effort to restore.
Update. The operation was successful. I'm resting up in hospital just reading the hundreds of get well messages! Still don't feel 100% but I'm comfortable at least.
Thanks for all your support guys and I hope to be in front of a camera soon enough. Rest first though.
Probably one of my favourite projects that Reiko would be a part of. Phantasy Star II for the Mega Drive. This game would be a huge reason for me to buy a Mega Drive.
I am currently doing a playthrough of this game in 2024.
Dear Sega. May I suggest ways to increase sales?
🔥 Revenge of Shinobi HD.
🔥 Sonic Generations 2
🔥 Skies of Arcadia 2
🔥 Golden Axe 4
🔥 Jet Set Radio 3
Any Sega fans got other suggestions?
Do you think these would sell?
After Sonic 2 Reiko would then go on to be a Director on Phantasy Star IV to give the fans the RPG that they always wanted PS3 to be.
She'd also direct Saturn's Magic Knight Rayearth.
Reiko then went to work on a shooter named Zillion that was a tie in with an anime TV series that would later influence the look of the Sega Phaser Light Gun.
Just a quick update about my heart attack situation. I'm feeling super fine now and I'm looking to be released tomorrow if all goes well.
The operation wasn't without its scary parts as my heart did stop during the delicate process. But it was a complete success!

has blown up over on Reddit and now we are trending as the

Unbelievable!
Before Since Spacies was a thing I remember being so over the moon to pick up the Wii U.
As much as I loved that console I got so fed up with the continuous dunking on the platform.
Anyone here actually liked their Wii U?
I almost forgot to add Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast in 2000. Rieko over saw the production of this title to which many people praised one of the few JRPG's for the Dreamcast to be released.
Also in 1987 Reiko would be involved in a Japanese only release of Hoshi wo Sagashite...
I am not overly familiar with this title but an English homebrew version is out there somewhere.
When I started at the Sega Hotline in November 91 I was the 3rd full-timer to join the team. By the time I had left in 1994 we had a team of six Sega Masters at the helm.
I couldn't have been in a more perfect role in gaming history.
In 1990 Reiko would be involved with Shadow Dancer. This would be a original take on the arcade game but would not be a port. It's departure from the arcade game would be an interesting decision perhaps to avoid gamers focusing on the console's shortcomings.
Shadow Dancer was a…
The Sega Mega Drive was a new and exciting era for Sega. So of course Reiko was involved and she'd be involved with the Alex Kidd franchise once again with Alex Kidd in Enchanted Castle. This game would be more of a test and experiment for Sega to get familiar with the new…

So for my first job I think I win hands down. Full-time staff member for the Sega Hotline. Tasks included helping gamers wanting cheat codes, reviewing games for marketing purposes and for the in house magazine. Plus attending road-shows pushing the Sega brand!
