Totally agree, and we all know that teaching and formative assessment are integrated by any reflective practitioner.
Lots of talk at the moment about 'assessment' which is actually about exams & testing. As I've been promoting formative assessment in music education & elsewhere for many years this grates somewhat. So quick reminder, all exams are assessments, but not all assessments are exams!

I covered #England under 10 managers, including some caretakers, very august names and figures among them. Not one of them achieved what #GarethSouthgate has, some with potentially exceptional sides in 98, 06 and 10. (Venables might have, but couldn't swallow his pride and do a
After 102 games and almost eight years in charge, Gareth Southgate has announced he is to leave his role as manager of the #ThreeLions.

The years of hurt continue, now stretching towards 60 years for England’s men team. The pain this time came from Spain, more inventive, more decisive. Footballing matadors put John Bull to the sword. Spain have lit up Euro 2024, England have rather laboured through Germany. Spain

Brilliant thread, deeply relevant to the teaching and learning of improvisation in music. Cognitive Load Theory attracts criticism amongst some music educators but it is a function of improvisation. Worth knowing the science amongst/within the art.
1/ What’s the greatest breakthrough in the science of education over the last century? Characterizing the mechanics of learning in the brain. Learning is all about the interplay between working memory (WM) and long-term memory (LTM). If you understand that, then you can

I find myself in a quite frankly surreal position, tweeting about the possible collapse of our civilization, and the insanity of our leadership, in failing to address the climate and ecological crisis. I'm no ideologue, and just someone fascinated by the natural world. 1/🧵

The Government cannot claim to be widening access to Music Education when a Minister has bothered to attend just 1 meeting of the National Plan for Music Education Monitoring Board since it was established 9 months ago. Music in schools is in crisis and kids are missing out.

This alarming statistic applies to music teaching in England but it’s certainly not all rosy in Scotland either. We need music in schools and music teachers. This is about so much more.
The need for more Music teachers is already acute. Now @TheNFER data shows that the Govt will train just 27% of the Music teachers it was aiming for in 2024/25 Under-recruiting so dramatically will have serious impacts on the opportunities for young people to study & play music

This is worth the 5 min read and relevant to much jazz curriculum, esp teaching and learning of improv.
So what are the implications of over 100 years of research on forgetting for educators? Principles to know: ▶️ Our capacity to store stuff in memory is relatively limitless but our capacity to retrieve it is not. In other words, just because you know something, it doesn't mean
