My last PhD chapter is now out there ready to be criticized - and cited, hopefully for good reasons! 🤞 An evaluation of performance and an attempt to "reconciliate" linear and geometrics morphometrics and their treatment of size and allometry. https://t.co/FZhHoZBTTp

I profoundly disagree with the smearing of the journal @ASNAmNat by @RichardDawkins and @Evolutionistrue: I am a (proud) long-term member of the editorial board of American Naturalist which is still one of our most important journals in evolutionary biology 1/n

American Naturalist used to be a great journal. Very sad. How could they sink so low? https://t.co/XTcGpxEPfK

Had a great time at #AES2022 . Thanks to all the organisers and of course the presenters. So much interesting science! Was also impressed by the diversity of the attendees, especially the students and ECRs. Everyone was very supportive. Planning to attend this conference again!

I got laid off from Twitter this morning with no notice. I was the lead paleontologist responsible for promoting content about placing fossils in phylogenetic trees every time someone tweeted a paper featuring macroevolutionary analysis of extant species alone.

Read Julia’s essay if you think that trans kids are increasing in the population. Spoiler: they probably aren’t.

so @google, you should know that this anti-trans activist & "big pharma" conspiracy theorist is falsely reporting an essay of mine that is still relevant & was just cited on @LastWeekTonight – here's the essay in question, can you please fix this?: https://t.co/G0wvaDJrbX

Read the entire discussion! It’s great! TSG was very influential to me. It really shaped the way I think about evolution. I teach it to my students although we also teach them critical thinking about it too. But I disagree strongly with this opinion.

I think 'The Selfish Gene' by Richard Dawkins has done untold damage to so many people's understanding of evolutionary biology. It teaches hyper-adaptionist thinking and completely wrong ideas (e.g. "genes = units of selection"). Possibly the most damaging popsci book of all time

Also, while I'm at it, computer programs are code, not codes. Spies have codes. Programmers write code. #RStats #julialang

twitterverse: Is anyone else annoyed by the term "functional diversity" which ecologists seem to equate with "disparity" in macroevolutionary studies? Also, isn't "functional diversity" (disparity) a property of ecosystems, not taxa?

VERY interesting paper on modelling macroevolution has just caught my eye. Just come out in print but has been available online for a while. It provides a rigorous definition of a model that appears to have wide applicability. Plus, the figures look nice! https://t.co/wVyQBOSe4O

Super excited to share this review on sex-specific morphs in @NatureRevGenet. Sex-specific morphs expand the study of sex differences beyond bimodal comparisons of male and female averages, and allow us to study a more expansive range of sexualization https://t.co/BxlFou4WaZ
