John Williams reveals that he “never liked film music very much...The film thing was a job to do.” And he still managed to turn out the scores for Jurassic Park, Jaws, Superman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Star Wars and more. Not bad for a day job.

The first comprehensive biography of Cecil Rhodes in a generation, this critical work elaborates on the life and times of Rhodes, showing how his racist politics and controversial policies had an enduring influence on modern South Africa. Learn more: https://t.co/0Mot5JlA17

Oxford University Press is celebrating 20 years of its Word of the Year. My favourite has to be ‘omnishambles’, from The Thick of It. Unsurprisingly, it remains in regular use and has taken on a life of its own. @OxUniPress https://t.co/T9E9vBQhBI

WWII is meant to be ‘the people’s war’ in which ordinary people rose up, saved the nation and swept the Labour party to victory in 1945. That story is at best misleading and at worst untrue - @KitKowol, author of "Blue Jerusalem" @OUPHistory, for @CityAM https://t.co/xMvgZImhGq

The chapter I’ve just read about Max Beaverbrook, investigating his politics and giving him more than the usual, sentence long descriptors (larger than life, press baron, maverick etc) is one of the most interesting & fresh things I’ve read about WW2 UK politics in ages.
