Over 1/3 of shark and ray species are threatened with the risk of extinction, which is a significant increase from 1/4 species last estimated in 2014. India, being a top shark-fishing nation, has been reporting declining elasmobranch landings over the past two decades.🌊🎣

(5/7).It was compared to 3 #decades of #historical #catch #records that accounted for 144 species. Our study did not report any #sawfishes, #numbfishes, #skates, #wedgefishes and alarmingly 1/3 of the species from the records have not been observed for the past 5 years.
