Tomorrow morning I am having open heart surgery to have my aortic valve replaced. I sure could use your prayers and good thoughts❤️I still have lots of work to do🙏
Colonial settler mindset is “I have rights.” Indigenous mindset is “I have obligations.” Instead of thinking that I am born with rights, I choose to think that I am born with obligation to the past, present and future generations.
Pioneer Day is complicated. A couple of years ago I asked my Bishop if he would let me speak in Sacrament Meeting on that day to give the rebuttal. HE let me! Best Pioneer Day ever!
Manifest Destiny Week: It’s ok to celebrate Pioneer Day but remember. Pioneer Day is a LDS holiday with an LDS narrative. It will always be so until you include the story of the 3 black slaves and the thousands of new Native American refugees this created.

This past Nov-Jan I had radiation treatments for cancer. Today I had my 3 month follow up with blood work. I am so grateful to announce I am cancer free. Watch Out World.
This Saturday is the 159th Anniversary of the Bear River Massacre. This was one of the largest massacres of Native Americans in the history of this country. To learn more from the perspective of the Shoshone you can read my book. DM me your name and address or Amazon
My friends at the Church History Library found this gem from 1958. My Great Grandparents Moroni and Amy Timbimboo. Among other things he was called as the first Indian Bishop in the Church. I spent many summers at his home at Washakie.
Happy Native American Heritage Month everyone 😊 I hope we can all take the time to learn more about the First People’s of this wonderful country. Ask questions, read a book from a Native American author and find out all that you can. Ours is a wonderful history.
So happy to announce that I took a position as a Practioner-In-Residency at the University of Utah spring semester, in the Environmental Humanities Program. So excited to share an Indigenous perspective to Climate and Environment❤️
Manifest Destiny Week Fun Fact… There were more than 20,000 Native Americans living in the Utah Territory in 1847. In just 50 years that number dropped to 2,623. A sharp decline of 86%.
Today in history. On December 26, this man ordered the mass execution of 38 Indigenous people. This would be the largest mass execution in US history.

5 months ago I was diagnosed with advanced Prostate Cancer. Had surgery 6 weeks ago. Follow up labs drawn last Friday and today I am cancer free. I am so grateful and blessed. There is a higher power than my own who has a hand in our lives ❤️🙏

This young lady named Mae called me and said she was doing a report at school about my Grandmother Mae Timbimboo. I was lucky enough to attend. I brought her my Grandmothers dress, necklace and moccasins to wear. She would have been proud.
Very honored to have my book “The Bear River Massacre A Shoshone History” named by BYU History Department as book of the year. Join me Oct 27 to discuss🙏
Honest question. Why does academia exclude native voices unless we conform to your hiring criteria to prove our worth? Is my knowledge as a tribal leader and Tribal elder not sufficient?
A while back I was contacted by the Mayor of Tremonton. The City wanted to paint a mural on a building depicting our cultural heritage.
After an extensive search, Derek No-Sun Brown, an Indigenous Artist from Fort Hall, was selected as the Artist to bring this to life🙏❤️

Do you know who is not at the table? Native people. We have never been given a seat at the table, yet we manage the resource for thousands of years.

As a direct descendant of the Shoshone people who saw the 1st trek in to the valley it’s a hard pass for me. Why relive the trauma😢of Manifest Destiny
The “We are not Mascots” rally today at the State Capitol was wonderful. So many friends coming together to make a difference. Racism in our communities won’t be tolerated. We need to do better.
Native American Heritage Month. Thank you to all of the men and women who have served our country. Did you know that Native Americans served in the Armed Forces at five times the national average and have served with distinction in every major conflict for the past 200 years.
Manifest Destiny Week: While Brigham Young was always quoted as saying that it was easier to feed the Indians them to fight them, he only came to that conclusion after tried to completely eliminate the Utes out of Utah County.
😢 Sad morning. Our Wild Little Rose went to a Heaven this morning. I bought her for Melody 3 Christmas’ ago when she was only 8 months old. We are heart broken 💔
This amazing young man Kia Sorenson didn’t his Eagle Scout Project about the children massacred at Bear River. See his project below. What an amazing gift❤️🙏 Thank you Kai
I can’t change history. I don’t want to change history. But I can change the future and so can you. Some of the greatest crimes in history were not caused by hatred but by indifference. It’s time for good people to stand up and make a difference.
I was just looking at this picture of my beautiful Shoshone people and wondering why they didn’t ever smile, well I’ll leave that subject for another day. I always smile😊then right when I think they have no sense of humor, I notice the guy on the top right. 😂😂😂
I am willing to bet that my day was better than yours. I spent the afternoon with Terry Tempest Williams and her Harvard Divinity class at the Bear River Massacre Site. I wish I could explain the feelings of love that existed there today. It was special.
Am I understanding this clearly? The white citizens of San Juan county want to divide the county in half so as to remove themselves from the Native American majority? 😳Welcome to our reality EVERY DAY!!!
Never, ever has a Native American been the nominee for Congressional District 1- this campaign truly is historic. Not only will we make CD-1 competitive again for the first time in 40 years, but we can win in November. But, the only way we win is with your vote by Tuesday.
Thank you everyone who helped with the campaign. I won 55% to 45% so there will be a primary. This election is about giving people a voice. I will do that. I was born for this.

American History without Native Americans one could say, is un-American. Great Nations deserve Great Histories that are honest, inclusive and complicated 🙏
Moroni and Amy Timbimboo my Great Grandparents. Moroni was the 1st Indian Mormon Bishop. Also pictured is my dad. This is at the dedication of the “This Is The Place Monument” in 1947
What are your thoughts? Are Native Americans the Covenant people from the BOM? What roll will they play in the last days? If they are, why don’t we have more NA leadership in the church?
I just filmed a Documentary for PBS at the Golden Spike. We talked about the impact of the Railroad, the coming of the Saints and the Bear River Massacre. Thank you to the PBS team for allowing us to tell our story🙏❤️

200 years ago Shoshone elders did not prepare our children for successful career paths in a capitalistic system. Stories were meant to create self motivated, self-directed, community minded, brilliant, loving citizens who at their core, upheld ideals around family and community

tomorrow. I am going to have surgery for Prostate Cancer at the Huntsman in SLC. I could use all the help I can get 🙏
This past year has changed my life. I have made connections across Utah, built relationships with people from every background, and learned so much. Last night, after the results rolled in, our campaign conceded. However, this is not the end. (1/3)
One advantage to having a couple of granddaughters living with you is that Santa will always make a visit. Merry Christmas to all my friends who bless my life everyday ❤️🙏
It’s been 6 years since you packed up the only life you knew in Florida and moved here to Utah to start a grand adventure. Happy Anniversary Melody Parry. I love you and I love our life.
This morning a young boy notice a mirror hanging in the honor tree at the Bear River Massacre Site. He asked why there would be a mirror there? A young girl answered, “it is there to remind us that WE did this.”😳🥲🙏I was the student today.
Small miracles and hard work! Thank you Ogden City Council, Mayor Mike Caldwell and especially Anna Keogh and friends for all of your efforts. Chief Little Soldier who was the first resident in the Ogden area when the pioneers arrived is now being recognized🙏

History is contested ground. Who owns the past? For centuries, non-Indians have monopolized the writing of Indian history… but not any more. We must insist on greater intellectual and cultural sovereignty.
I risked life and limb to get to North Salt Lake this morning to see all of the kids at Foxboro Elementary. It was worth it and I had a few Navajo brothers and sisters help me celebrate Indigenous cultures of Utah.
My Great Grandfather on the far left Moroni Timbimboo. First Lamanite Bishop in Mormon Church. He had 9 brothers. His father, Da-boo-zoo named all of his boys after Book of Mormon Prophets
We need to reimagine how we do business. Instead of telling ourselves that we can deplete, extract and develop a piece of property for short term gain. Let’s start asking ourselves, should we? What will be the cost to future generations?
