The work doesn’t pause just because I’m unwell. So I offer to work from home. Not because I’m okay, but because I can’t afford to fall behind. And even then, I’m told I won’t get the full salary. Because rest has a price here. Because being sick still needs to be profitable.

I haven’t been home in four months. Not the place I live, but home, the one place that brings me peace. And even if I go, I can’t stay long enough to actually recover. Every extra day becomes a counted leave, a questioned absence, a quiet guilt trip. I’m the only one in my team.

My HR says, “You’ll recover in three days, just like everyone else.”. But I’m not everyone. My body doesn’t work like theirs. My immune system takes its time, slower, heavier, more stubborn. Noida doesn’t suit me. It never has. It clings to me like a weight I can’t shake off.

Even when I do take a leave, I usually complete my tasks while working from home. But no one counts that effort. And still, I hesitate to ask for time off & honestly, idk how long this hesitation will stay. Maybe this is why I feel like I don’t fit into this corporate rat race.

In November '24, I almost had pneumonia. I took a day off on Friday, went home,came back on Sunday with around 85-90% recovery. Even then I resumed work without fully recovering. That’s when I realized, when people see that you never take leaves, they start taking you for granted.

Since the day I started working whether it was an internship only, I’ve never really asked for a day off. Most of the leaves I’ve taken were only for exams or practicals.
