Also the synchronous JS DOM API is a dead sentence for performance.

2/3 of CSS should be let go. E.g. if you compare what RN supports and what browsers support, you will have a decent idea. Fun fact: it is how Flutter started - the Chrome team tried to build a faster renderer with smaller set of supported APIs.

To achieve that browsers will need to give up a bunch of APIs that inhibit performance optimizations now. And that will never happen.
You still can’t create a UI as high fidelity as one of the most basic apps on iOS - Stocks app. Never seen even a basic app like this be as smooth in a web browser. Note the list reordering. Everything animates as you drag them (tap “Edit Watchlist”).

Maybe it's too late to buy Bitcoin, but it's certainly not too late to join Coinbase. While Coinbase isn't for everyone, if you're bold (or bald, or based) enough, please DM me–we're hiring.

@Eli_White Thanks to @DelphineBugner. Nice talk! Also bummed that Josh got more screen time than me, even though you called him "this guy". Also, if it were up to me, I would immediately reject the PR introducing `shouldBeRecycled`. Ofc, I considered that idea initially and dismissed it.

question for people voted “I am not serious”: what do you mean? like “it’s a stupidest idea you ever heard” or “forget it, it will never happen” or what?

Pros and cons I see: Pros: * For a web-based framework, it makes sense to support more web standards that are designed to interplay well with each other. * There's already support for transform; why not add more? * Aligning APIs between Web and Mobile/Desktop will help

Serious question: Should React Native natively support CSS Transitions and Animations?

I do what I do because it’s the right thing to do. If it’s not good, I just have to try harder. Harsh criticism is part of the process.

examples: car multimedia, casual games, “Instagram”-like apps (where constant low-latency is a must), finally Spaceship UI (reliability), fridges and toasters (hi perf on not-so-high-end CPU).

the biggest problem with React Native that slows down its development and innovations is that it already has been *mostly* good enough for many years. let’s face it, there are still use cases where RN is not good enough (but certainly should be).

hot take: Lighting Network is not fulfilling its promise and it will never succeed. it’s a clever over-engineered hack that has been promoted by Bitcoin maxis only because they cannot admit that there are better solutions that do not directly rely on Bitcoin. sad but true.

If you are building another L2 for Bitcoin, please call it Bytecoin.

This is of course a joke. It hasn't been designed.

ugly truth that’s obvious for all the immigrants. if my kid would want to be a dancer, I would be supportive but I will make it clear that’s the direct path to miserable poverty.
It’s now abundantly clear that the ethos of “don’t worry about money, follow your dreams!” impressed by so many parents upon Millenial American children was purely incidental to the brief era of peace and prosperity the country enjoyed in the ‘90’s, and not actually a reflection

hot take: all this “public good funding, baby” talks is just a crypto version of the same ESG and carbon footprint cringe
At Apple, we believe that climate change is one of the world’s most urgent priorities and we are deeply committed to doing our part. Today we had a special guest—a real force of nature—stop by to check on our progress.
