The gutting of Nature funding from the Infrastructure, Climate and Nature fund by government, at a time when stakeholders are actively engaged in the development of Irelands Nature Restoration Plan, is a disgrace! https://t.co/IiG2G055b2

Golden eagles were reintroduced to Ireland, but without prey they’re now struggling to thrive "Reintroducing a species isn’t enough. The systems that sustain it also need to be restored." #RestoreNature

Rewilding isn’t just about reintroducing predators. Without prey and habitat restoration, even wild-looking landscapes can’t support them.

As part of our ongoing work with @DublinPortCo and @dublinbiosphere, we visited the tern colony in Dublin Port to do a nest census of breeding Arctic and Common terns. The colony appears to be doing well and we saw the first hatchlings of the season, some only a few hours old!

1. All eagle deaths, esp in a small population, are a loss but some are harder to take than most. Sadly, our 1st breeding male, released in 2008, was recently picked up dead. This bird deserves a proper obituary to put his life (and death) in context https://t.co/TfSKqZeOTa

While white-tailed eagles don’t often die from poisoning, a ‘disturbing’ increase in poisonings has been observed over the last three to five years.
