A5. I share what I’m currently reading with my students… I have a special spot on my board for listing my current read. I also ask my students what they enjoy reading and start conversations from there! #myAEA

A4. In the ELA classroom, having a supportive admin is a must! Also, being transparent with students and parents about upcoming class novels. Book Rationales are a great way to show what standards/relevance the novel has to the student’s learning experience! #myaea

A3. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is a graphic novel that explores a young Iranian girl’s experiences during the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1978. This is a great graphic novel to explore themes of Loss of Innocence, Repression, and War. #myAEA

A2: My first observation is the number of challenges doubling this year. I believe censorship can be harmful because students need “mirrors” AND “windows” when reading (to see themselves and others). #myAEA

A1: Another great one I’ll add is Burro Genius. I read it for a class last year at UAB focused on ELL/ESL teaching. A must read for anyone who teaches ELL/ESL students! #myAEA

A1: I’m currently reading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. It has opened my eyes to the history between Native peoples and the United States and reminded me that stories are complex which is why it’s so important to read accounts of history from multiple perspectives. #myAEA

Q1. “When we ban books, we're closing off readers to people, places, and perspectives. When we stand up for stories, we unleash the power that lies inside every book.” Tell us about a book you’ve read that changed your perspective or showed you a new perspective. #myAEA
