It's astonishing, their grandparents didn't even know who Santa was, but now their grandkids are waiting in line to sit on his lap.
Isn't he supposed to be delivering gifts right now, anyway?
@sharghzadeh
Obviously American culture is dominant but this is a little unfair because - 1. Many of these countries have Christian populations and 2. In some countries (Turkey for example) many people seem to confuse new years and Xmas.
@AmalekAmerican
1. Negligible Christian population
2. Not close to Christians
3. No Christians participating
4. American secular Christmas (Santa meet and greet?) is not part of the local Christian Christmas tradition
@sharghzadeh
What exactly is the issue here? There are minorities too who celebrate it and if they are trying to make some effort of them, there is nothing wrong with it.
@sharghzadeh
Perhaps a totally immature response, but this is what immediately sprung to my mind. Culture Victory is the most boring form of victory - go for the science victory, it's more fun.
@sharghzadeh
Although the Santa traditions are not especially American, it is certainly American-accented diffusion of the joyous and consumerist aspects of the holiday that have prevailed. The emotive appeal of "peace on earth for all mankind" is a winner.
