I heard the original call the other day and it was dispatched as a patient with burns; then upgraded to a structure fire (only the mattress had some charring, no structural involvement). I didn’t tweet about it because originally it was believed to be self-inflicted.

Maybe it’s my own personal bias from working with/around the elderly over the years as an organist, but man, you can easily tell when one is ‘sharp & with it’ … or they are beginning to ‘lose it’. That fella was not ‘sharp & with it’ …and that was a scenario for compassion imho.

Respect your elders. The back-up officers were much more professional. Took two seconds of listening to the old fella to realize something wasn’t 100% with him. Jeez.
