Seems like the British government has been getting in the way of innovation for quite a long time

EXCL: Government will stop using wax seals on official documents. Seals were first used by Kings 1,000 years ago and have been used by the Govt for 150 years. It will be scrapped as part of red tape slashing drive to speed up govt for taxpayers . Fab story by @SophiaSleigh.

I had such high hopes for this government, slowly being dashed one by one.

I am struggling to understand the political rationale for the Planning and Infrastructure Bill amendments. I could understand sacrificing YIMBY support to win over nature groups (and their large membership). Short-termist, but there's a logic. Yet, these amendments don't do.

If you want to make this claim you should train it on persons games and see if outperforms, but it won’t.

Those players will also individually be more comfortable in specific types of positions. Get a 1000 elo player who only plays London to play e4 instead and they won’t be a 1000 elo player anymore.

Feels like this is more a result of getting better coverage of a field, a single 1k elo player will only know a couple of openings. If you train on lots of different 1k elo players you get breadth (although likely still not depth) in opening theory.

This paper seems very interesting: say you train an LLM to play chess using only transcripts of games of players up to 1000 elo. Is it possible that the model plays better than 1000 elo? (i.e. "transcends" the training data performance?). It seems you get something from nothing,

Long shot but does anyone know how to get in contact with @FrontiersIn support? I’ve sent them several emails but not got a reply 😒.

Amazon now appears to be using an LLM called Q for support. I hope it isn't named after the trickster being from Star Trek who was known for messing around with the main characters.

The Multimodal team at Genomics England have a blog stream! Check out the first post here on the Cancer 2.0 program and the collection of a unique imaging dataset that complements the genomic data we already have available.

If anyone at #ISMB2023 fancies meeting to chat about multimodal and machine learning let me know. I can also tell you about the Genomics England multimodal cancer dataset with pathology, radiology, genomic and clinical data and the ML platform we have 😄.
