I’ve met tons of teachers over the years who are woke AF and can’t teach a lick. Please don’t use revolutionary rhetoric to mask your lack of pedagogical skills, uninformed practices, and lazy instruction.
Was out so grabbed a coffee. As I’m driving home, wife calls me and asks where am I and if I got her something. Bewildered, I make a u-turn. She says, “the receipt that came to my email doesn’t look like you got enough for everyone in the house.” 😂 I’m back at the coffee shop
Did your teacher prep program teach you about dope Black educators? When all you learn are theories of Horace/Skinner, etc but erase folks who were the best at teaching Black kids you’re at the deficit levels, not the kids.

The most revolutionary thing to be is a great teacher and Educator. And, trust me I love great rhetoric. I love literate and numerate Black & Brown children even more.

We need a whole lot of things, & we must continue to fight for them, but please fight for great teacher prep & great instruction as well. Tell me what you gonna do. Naw, show me what yaw are gonna do.

Philly’s so tiny. Ms Abbott was my son’s favorite teacher too. I loved her high expectations and warm demander style. Class culture was awesome.

I rarely the so-called “woke boat” preach rhetoric about deep content knowledge, instructional coaching, reflection, revising, feedback loops, effective questioning, data analysis, literacy research, student outcomes, etc. Organize ‘round that too, yaw.
Small confession 😜
I broke down during a full staff meeting today. Had to take a few seconds to gain my composure. Definitely not my style lol AND it provided some healing for some of my hurt, but the fact that the space was safe was e’rythang.
America, let's stop saying "George Floyd died" or "the death of George Floyd." Instead call it accurately...language is important:
"the murder of George..." or "George Floyd was murdered/lynched..."
Teachers, are your lesson plans political documents? Are your lessons political acts? If you think not, know that they still are but not addressing historic oppression that schools are seeped in. Silence about educational inequity/injustice are also political statements and acts
6 yrs ago, a student drew this in her art class. I ❤️ it so much, I offered to buy it & promised to hire her upon graduation if she was interested. She is now teaching art

On a once-in-a-while lazy Sun morning, this is what the girls subject me to. 🤦🏾♂️ I reminded ‘em that while I don’t have any mtngs, we have

tonite. They were unrelenting and said I can’t wash it off if I loved them.
I’ll need to teach them more about meaning of love
Gave daughters bakhlava for dessert. Told ‘em it was one of my fav sweets as a kid. One says, “This looks nothing like the sweets of today.” The other says, “It looks like it has vegetables in the middle of it.”
My kids are just disrespectful to the art & beauty of bakhlava 😢
My 6 yr old: Did the protestors write letters like I do when I am upset?
Me: Yes, honey. Black folks have written tens of thousands of letters.
6 yr old: Oh, they should be really angry since no one is listening to them
Me: Yeah, you’re 6 & getting it. Others are willfully deaf

My daughter knows that in my youth, I was shot & left for dead. Sometimes she’s there when I talk about it publicly. She’s a sensitive soul and it impacts her.
It’s a reminder to me that what we may have endured impacts the next generation and may require attention & community
And stop teaching Black kids if you don’t love them. We can tell who views their destinies as intricately and permanently interlinked with their Black students as it informs the educators’ mindset and actions
Mama, I miss you and I’m trying hard to live what you showed us. But, honestly, food doesn’t even taste the same since you left. Alhamdulillah in all times.

When they announced a swag surf, I was excited because I thought we were going to throw swag into the crowd. Oh, we haven’t done that before at a BMEC, I thought. 🤦🏾♂️ 😆 So, swag surf is a dance. Got it.
We met through my sister who was a classmate of my wife’s at a university in Iran. Years later, during her visit to the States to see my Mama, aunt, and sister, I was smitten and proposed.
The comments on this are great 🙂
If y'all wouldn't mind dropping a comment/quote tweet of where you met your spouse & a pic - people seem interested 🤷🏻♂️
We met on hinge 🙏

A Penn student/teacher told me yrs ago that a professor asked his college class should teachers teach their students how to protest or how to read. Just about all ‘em said protesting was more important. No idea teaching Black kids how to read was resistance, an act of protest

We spend so much time talmbout cultural competence and fluency in education, but we should really be talking about the pervasive incompetence and inarticulacy that pervades education & the damage that does to our children. Name it: Incompetence.
Mornin’.
I had to visit the school today. A teacher asked my 8-yr old if she had a problem. When she said “no” he said, “then take your eyes off of me.”
She forgot to say, yes, I have a problem. He’s actually on his way up here.
Educators don’t use intimidation as a tool

Teaching is a skill. We earn the right to call ourselves teachers when we’re driving towards student outcomes. It’s easy to mistake engagement for learning. Here’s how I learned the difference. via

Just your friendly reminder that Muslims aren’t a monolith. I’m Muslim. Oz is Muslim. I wouldn’t vote for Oz to be a homecoming king, let alone a daggone senator.
As part of our ongoing series on higher education, we focus on why developing and recruiting more Black teachers is especially important for Black students to ensure they continue and finish their education.
To Him we belong and to Him we shall all return. We buried our Baba on Friday w’ deep sorrow & immense gratitude for tremendous blessing of having had this revolutionary in our lives for so long. Grateful to his circle of friends who reminded us,“Yaw still have lots of uncles!”

What’re some of the best maternity leave policies out there?

Vast majority of teachers won’t put their children in the schools they teach other people’s children in either. That goes for Sups, board members, etc. They’ll navigate the system and place their kid in the suburbs, private or magnet.
So, a worker

Good morning. A huge part of the so-called achievement gap isn’t the gap between Black and white children’s test scores, but the gap between adults' mindsets and the abilities and potential of Black children.

It’s the same with principals, teachers, and all educators. The idea that some educators reject feedback because theyre “professionals, should be trusted and don’t need it” is absurd. It’s oft not about distrust, it’s about continuous improvement to ensure student achievement.
Hiring teachers of color should be a TOP priority, as students recover from disrupted learning opps., due to the pandemic.
