Of course starting these critical meds in the hospital is superior, people often fall thru the cracks. Too bad US Hospitals don’t like to administer expensive drugs during hospitalization.

Remarkable RCT from Norway demonstrating that starting HCV treatment in the hospital with newly diagnosed HCV among PWIDs is superior to deferring therapy to outpatient care in achieving HCV cure. Results argue for broader use. @HMidgard @selihep

HCV TREATMENT: Start the Hepatitis C treatment while a patient is in the hospital (we do this and continue the whole time if PWID are being given 6 weeks of IV antibiotics for instance for osteomyelitis/endocarditis) - don't wait until outpatient setting. Like ART - start right

New study @AddictionJrnl finds incarcerated people had a massive (500%) reduction in overdose deaths in the 2 months post-release when receiving jail-based MOUD. Offering this life-saving treatment should be mandatory for jails and prisons nationally.

Poster at @INHepSU from @MajaSkaland highlighting that hospitalization is a great opportunity to test for hepatitis c! Awareness campaign improved test uptake, and we need to continue to inform and educate! #endhepc #eliminatehepc #INHSU22

Take home message from Kristian Malme today @INHepSU: Although HCV treatment uptake increased among people who inject drugs in 🇳🇴, strategies to improve treatment among women and individuals not engaged in OAT should be addressed!
