Thank you to @danial_mazalan (yet again) for making it possible - my miracle worker on the ground here in Malaysia 🇲🇾

A hot, humid Sunday in Kuala Lumpur Stadium to see @giange94 lead Kuala Lumpur City against Perak FA in the Malaysian Cup. Giancarlo is a real icon of Malaysian football now. His size and presence on the field can’t be mistaken. KL City trail 2-0 from the first leg. A big task.

Dandenong Stadium remains an obvious play. 30 min train from Caulfield or Pakenham. 20 min drive from Frankston or Ringwood. Crucially, in recent years, the south-east has now developed a distinct identity (wasn’t the case for a long time). Football-friendly demographic, too.
@sebth Dandenong based 12k boutique stadium is a great idea. City could be based there and rebranded as Sth - East Melbourne.

I am only for this idea if it brings about funding for what Melbourne clearly needs: a 10,000-15,000 seat rectangular football venue within walking distance of the CBD. A place that could host so much football content across A-League, Championship and NPL in a right-sized venue.
The time has come. The Australian Open has to find away to start playing tennis over the road at AAMI Park in January. It’s done in the US, playing tennis in bigger stadiums. The AO needs to investigate what’s possible over the road in the same precinct to help spread the load.

Went to the Australian Open opening night to see Sabalenka and Alcaraz It’s hard to describe Melbourne Park. #AO2026 is the only grand slam that truly stops the host city. The entire precinct is a sporting theme park. They’ve taken the spectator experience to a whole new level

Pleased that FA has moved to bring in a CEO with extensive broadcast and commercial experience. The streaming/broadcast/digital industry is shifting so rapidly, so having someone who knows the playbook - and current trends - will be a big strategic advantage. Welcome, Martin ⚽️
Football Australia today announced the appointment of Martin Kugeler as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a new era as the organisation enters a landmark period for the game nationwide. Read more about the appointment ⬇️📰 https://t.co/XbWo6HCI1M

Special mention to @collinsadam & @GeoffLemonSport for raising their game to an extraordinary level this summer. TFW was spellbinding. The volume of well-researched, encyclopaedic, insightful and truly hilarious content made for enjoyment that left the actual matches for dead.

The Ashes is over. It wasn’t the greatest series. But it wasn’t hard to find a winner. The quality of cricket podcasts this summer was exceptional. @Final_Word_Pod, @SkyCricket (@Athersmike & @nassercricket) @gradecricketer & Cricket Et Al absolutely smashed it. Well done all

Technically elite players will always have a home in the A-League - even if they lose their pace. As they hit mid-to-late 30’s, players such as Diamanti, Del Piero, Corica and Diego Castro were still a cut above because they all knew what to do when the ball came to their feet.

The pitch was absolutely perfect last year for Australia v India - one of the greatest sporting events of my lifetime. Sometimes, things aren’t broken and don’t require fixing.
Credit to MCG curator Matt Page for fronting up to a large press pack this morning on what should’ve been a monster 3rd day of test cricket in front of 90 thousand fans. That’s the sort of accountability you rarely see from others. #AUSvENG #TheAshes

In there was also lots of clippings from the last few weeks of the Morwell Falcons (then Eastern Pride) in the Latrobe Valley Express, and the impact the club’s pending collapse was having on the region - particularly the on-again, off-again move to Melbourne that never happened.
Found a sealed box hidden in the garage at my parent’s place. Opening it was a time capsule of match day programs from the NSL era. Some are more than 25 years old. Mostly @smfc, @MelbKnights, Morwell Falcons and a few others. Memories ❤️

Heartbreaking news. One of the good ones. So much energy & enthusiasm. Brought such a positive vibe wherever he went. Favourite memory - us winning a game of foot volley against the locals on the Copacabana during the 2014 World Cup. Doesn’t get much better. Rest easy, DMM 🤍
A massive loss for the Australian and US media landscapes. 😞 Rest in peace. #9WWOS

The Christmas Derby. Can only hope it’s a bit more festive in the second 45 minutes.

Absolutely miss the wild and emotional celebrations of yesteryear. The raw intensity of this one from Con Boutsianis (captured so perfectly as he sprints towards the sidelines) is my favourite from the NSL era. And how about the assist to seal victory for @smfc! What a player.
The no celebration is such an indictment of the no crowd effect. For the fans AND players alike it must feel like a pre season friendly. There is nothing wrong with the quality, but no one being no there makes it feel Sunday league.

Brilliant. We are blessed with some amazing historians in Australian football. The treasure trove they’ve simultaneously uncovered and preserved is quite simply astounding. Roy is emblematic of all those who’ve committed to keeping the game’s history alive. Richly deserved 👏
