The new Running Man movie is closer to the Stephen King novella, but still very, very different. It's frustrating bc I love that story, but the adaptations keep going left instead of right. I'm sure the new film will be entertaining. But after 30+ years I had hopes and dreams.

I try to post this every year on this date, which is the day after Prince's birthday and the day of Bourdain's death. I loved them both, and wrote about their relationship to food in their art.

If you put a gun to my head, I have to pick Stevie. but I have life stories for each: .When I want to remember my deceased brother, Marvin. When I want to re-live my youth, Thriller. When I want to remember what it was like to be a little scared of music, it's 1999.

"Sexuality". I get why, and I wouldn't say it's slept on, but it does not get its respect lo this many years later.

I get why this was cut from the film (it grinds things to a halt), but its inclusion would have gone a long toward addressing my main (almost only) issue with Sinners: that it didn't have much blues in it for a film focused on the blues. This is great.

Using the logic of "Harriet Tubman didn't exist because that's not even her real name"-ers, Malcolm X doesn't exist because he used to be Malcolm Little. Don't get us started on El-Hajj Malik El-Shabbaz IF THAT IS EVEN YOUR REAL NAME SIR.

"Much of the heavy lifting of the film’s colonizing polemic rests here, in the quiet-part-out-loud casting of the vampires as avatars for white supremacy’s never-ending attack on and subsuming of Black culture.". My review, and then some.

Is it free speech or not?.

When you see an outcome, know that whatever produced it is designed to do so. Whatever that is, is working 100%.

You know how, since forever, someone would say "The justice system is broken!" and some Black person would ahem them by stating that the justice system is functioning exactly as it's designed to? That's what the country is now, one big Black ahem.
