Sunday 8/20/50 at 10:10 am on WNBT. Universal sold off its serials in the late 1940s for theatrical reissues and television. This 13-chapter 1936 cliffhanger with the following year's star of James Whale's never-on-TV THE ROAD BACK was one of many based on comic strips.

I love this atmospheric shot of The Hot Dog Show at 4300 W. Riverside Dr, Toluca Lake, not far from the Warner Bros. studios. For what amounts to a two-stool hotdog stand, they seem to have put a lot of thought into its appeal at night.

A scene full of immensely talented professional actors working with a director with a keen eye for style, drama, and subtlety. Val Kilmer is brilliant, as is Michael Biehn. But Powers Boothe is menacing…and Kurt Russell doesn’t say a word and you can’t take your eyes off him.
Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in Tombstone was Oscar-worthy. Kilmer fully-committed in every way, down to his weight loss. I can’t picture anyone else as Doc Holliday.
