Nazem Kadri’s wife shares what their family has endured for the past 48 hours through the Jazzy Kadri Instagram account.
These racist attacks are sickening.
A free first question at Torts’ next media availability: “What was the difference between you threatening to bench players for kneeling during the national anthem, and Ivan Provorov being ‘true to himself’?”
Tanner Jeannot, scratched by the Lightning on the night their season ended, was acquired for:
- 1st round pick (2025)
- 2nd round pick (2024)
- 3rd round pick (2023)
- 4th round pick (2023)
- 5th round pick (2023)
John Tavares is in Year 6 of 7 in his contract and has 360 points in 363 games while playing second-line mins and winning 56.9% of his draws. In his age 31-33 seasons, he has missed five games and the Leafs have 54.2 xGF% with him on the ice.
He lived up to his end of the deal.
The Scheifele hit is gutless. Don’t let anyone off the hook with taking points about point of contact. It’s predatory and the only way it’s not suspendable is if the rules are broken. There’s no reason to deliver it. It’s a frustrated player trying to hurt someone. It’s bullshit.
Connor Bedard’s return to the WHL tonight: 4G, 2A, 6PTS, 13SOG.
He now has 40 goals and 93 points in 36 games this season. The equivalent of a 91-goal, 212-point pace across 82 games.
Several Providence Bruins, including John Farinacci and Fabian Lysell, wearing neck guards tonight.
Good for them. In the best interest of the players and leagues to move towards mandatory use. They’re pretty noninvasive nowadays, too.
Imagine if you’re a lifelong Leafs fan, you’ve saved up some money to go to your first game ever, you’re taking your wife or your kid, it has cost you a week’s salary, you drove a few hours, and that was the game they gave you.
I’m told
#MNWild
prospect Marco Rossi has received the full green light to resume training and skating. Big news for him and his family after a long journey to this point.
If I’m a teammate of Tyler Bertuzzi’s, I’m pissed. At him, for his selfishness regarding the success of the team and especially for the risk he’s taking with everyone’s health. At the Red Wings, for not taking a team-first stance in a sport that claims to be about those things.
What JT Miller did today, in speaking out against the NHL’s plans for the Canucks, and in turn the Canucks’ plans for their players, takes a tremendous amount of courage.
That he was put in a position to feel the need to say it at all is an indictment on the league.
Actually cannot believe we’re even talking about it as being a good call. That’s offside in any level of hockey.
Tyke. Peewee. Atom. Bantam. Midget. Beer league. Junior. And the NHL. It don’t matter. He’s carrying the puck across the line and it’s a foot offside.
Hat-tricks by 16-year-old Canadians at the World Juniors.
Wayne Gretzky: Dec. 23, 1977
Wayne Gretzky: Dec. 25, 1977
Connor Bedard: Dec. 28, 2021
(Yes, Wayne Gretzky scored two hat-tricks, two days apart, at 16.)
Quebec City: "We’re a historic city with the second-newest NHL-sized arena in Canada, can we get… an NHL team?"
"No."
"OK, how about the 2022 Memorial Cup?"
"No."
"OK, so the 2023 World Juniors then?"
"No."
Honestly shocked that there’s a Panthers Conn Smythe debate happening.
Bobrovsky is going to save more goals above expected than any goalie since the tracking began. If he doesn’t win it, a goalie can’t win it. With all due respect to Tkachuk, it should be a landslide.
Hot take: Keith Yandle is one of the worst defencemen in the NHL and if not for the ironman streak, would have been scratched a long time ago.
The Flyers have young D they need to get reps to down the stretch. Their development shouldn’t be sacrificed just to prolong his streak.
Win or lose this game, Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Keefe should be in charge of the Leafs next season, and 34, 16 and 88 should all be the core.
That’s a hard thing to do, but it’s almost surely the right thing.
Connor McDavid‘s 82-game pace: 50 goals, 146 points.
Eight players in NHL history have done that, in years where the league’s average save percentages were in the .870s or .880s and 7-8 goals were scored per game.
He’s doing it in a .910 league where under 6 goals are scored.
William Nylander is one of the best young hockey players on the planet. He posted two 61 point seasons on the only two full years of his ELC. He’s a worlds MVP. Nobody is trading him for Chris Tanev or your favourite team’s mediocre goddamn defenceman.
How can the NHLPA be OK with this? They went to bat for the players who wanted to bow out, as you’d expect a union to. And now what for the many more who were eager to use things like the tape? And what about unionized members who are gay? What messages does this send to them?
Is Alex Pietrangelo a HHOFer?
Two Stanley Cups. Olympic gold. World Cup gold. World Junior gold. Three-time Second Team All-Star. Should finish with 700-800 points.
"As players, we’re going to continue to offer support and be allies."
"You'll probably see me with the Pride tape on that night anyway."
The pushback on the NHL’s ban on Pride tape is already underway, writes

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend healthy scratching your 20-year-old fifth-overall pick who was fifth on your team in scoring as a rookie as a strategy for a team that isn’t a contender.
@simmonssteve
The Leafs’ best player spoke candidly in a scrum. James transcribed it. It was already widely reported, clipped, and shared before and after James did. For you to respond like this and make it personal is unprofessional, Steve.
Just today:
- Five positive tests with the Tampa Bay Lightning
- Eight positive tests with the Philadelphia Phillies
The sports world decided to play with fire. This is going to increasingly be the result.
If you sucker punch a guy and he gets injured, that should be a suspendable play. No matter how the sucker punch “looked” on camera, it’s still a sucker punch and the result is still an injury.
DoPS’ job should be to deter that kind of play.
What are we doing here?
The department off player safety has failed to meet its mandate to such a spectacular level, that they’ve actually CREATED six (decidedly not safe) fights in the opening minutes of a game through their neglect of it.
The league should be embarrassed.
I spent parts of three months living the life of a third-rung pro hockey player in the ECHL.
This is the story of four of those days, and a road trip from hell in a league beyond understanding.
In one:
An urgent update on the scoring race: The Coyotes, with one goal tonight, have overtaken Connor McDavid in hockey’s biggest race.
Here’s where things stand:
Arizona Coyotes goals: 43
Connor McDavid points: 42
McDavid has one game in hand. All eyes are on him tomorrow night.
Tim Stutzle says he already has a flight tonight to go to Ottawa. “I hope I can play in the NHL this season. That’s 100% my goal and I will work very hard for that.”
Became a dad of two today (he and mum are doing great)! Just logging on here from the hospital to say that according to a source, Brandt Clarke is not being traded by the Kings.
Hope everyone’s enjoying the Super Bowl!
The tank for Bedard is going to be biblical. The lottery night pins and needles for each team's fans before the logo is revealed. The reaction after WHICHEVER team wins it. The actual selection. It's all going to be a spectacle.
Jack Edwards has always been like this and I’ll never understand the people (including loads of non-Bruins fans and media) who’ve positioned him as some play-by-play god and man of the people. He’s just a jerk with a microphone. Good for Pat Maroon.
At this point, the Leafs may finish third or fourth in a 31-team league and still play a team that is higher than them in the standings in the *first round*. It’s hard to imagine a grinding 82-game season being devalued more.
Marie-Philip Poulin:
U18s: 10GP, 26PTS
World Championships: 44GP, 55PTS
Olympics: 22GP, 35PTS
Total: 76GP, 116PTS
A national treasure, and now a 3x Olympic champion.

Bring on Canada-USA on New Year’s Eve.
Steve Yzerman and Joe Sakic going from being two of the best players of one era to two of the best general managers of the next seems kind of unfair.
Is it possible to go into the Hall of Fame twice?
In Kyle Dubas' five seasons as Leafs GM, they averaged 106 points.
Before he took over, their points record was 105.
He was the AGM of that team, too.
An unprecedented run of regular season success that he deserves a ton of credit for, even if he didn't finish the job.
I could’t disagree in stronger terms.
Switzerland, Denmark, Austria, Latvia and Belarus, the five countries that typically make up those “two teams too many” have produced 120 NHL players.
Germany, once one of those, has now produced 42 thanks in large part to its U20 program.
"I'm not sure that game does either team any good in terms of getting better. I don't think either team learned a whole lot." Bingo, Dave Cameron. WJC has at least two teams too many. And countries like Austria learn nothing, nor does it get better, by getting its butt kicked.
Has Sidney Crosby flown under the radar? Through all the talk about McDavid and Draisaitl, and Matthews and Marner, and Barkov and Hubeardeau, and MacKinnon and Rantanen, and Kane, and OV’s resurgence, there’s Sid playing at a 96-point pace and eighth in the league in scoring.
Just wanted to say I see all of you demanding more coverage of the Blackhawks story, and you’re doing the right thing by asking better of us.
Keeping your job (or its prospects open, or your sources, or your friends in journalism) should not matter more than doing your job.
The Rangers, February of 2018: Announce long, painful rebuild.
The Rangers, July of 2019: Sign Panarin, acquire Trouba, draft Kakko.
That’s how you do it.
It is hard to have a worse first game with a new team than Seth Jones’ tonight. He honestly looks like a liability. Dude’s eight-year, $9.5M AAV deal doesn’t even kick in until *next* season.
