Someone succinctly putting into words something swirling in my head for months...
social media's demand to reduce all books to marketable trope tags resulted in many of you writing books purely to fulfill trope shopping lists resulting in a lot of books that have the unsurprising depth of a DSW shoebox diorama :/

I would 100% prefer my kid to be able to read and understand Moby Dick, but hate it and read rarely, than to love reading Diary of a Wimpy kid and its like frequently. A love of reading is nice, but it's not the goal of literacy instruction.

I wish I could capture the faces of the people who attempt to donate utter garbage to the library when I tell them: "you know you can recycle your outdated text books or your soiled, ancient board books that your kids have outgrown because they're 35 now."
It's perfectly okay to dispose of books without donating them to a library or elsewhere. That includes throwing them away. #oldtake

Full disclosure: only read the first Harry Potter book and have always thought it was a Frankenstein of fantasy tropes cobbled together into a clunky, hamfisted mess. I have no qualms with stories that wear their influences on their sleeve but IMO HP feels like bad fanfiction.
One upon a time I wrote an article about J.K. Rowling ripped off the entire concept/outline of Harry Potter from Neil Gaiman's Books of Magic and the 1986 film Troll. I got a lot of hate mail over it from fans, including messages telling me to kill myself.
