Executive Director, Munetsi Madakufamba (@MunetsM) said @sardcnet was supporting the work of FARD & the Government of Zimbabwe within the context of the blue economy strategy that is being implemented at the @SADC_News level.

The partnership between FARD & @sardcnet is critical for the generation of knowledge, access to information, and capacity building which are catalysts for building the fisheries and aquaculture industry. "Water and fingerlings alone do not build an industry.” Mharapira said.

With over 10 000 dams, the country has huge potential to improve fisheries production for household food and nutrition security as well as income generating purposes. Other African countries, like Egypt are earning as high as US$4 billion per annum from fish exports. 📸: FARD

Zimbabwe is currently producing 32,000 metric tonnes of fish annually, and is targeting to double the figure. With increased growth and productivity, the aim is to ensure that the fisheries and aquatic resources sector becomes a US$ 1 billion industry by 2030.

Madagascar hosted the @SADC_News Summit for the first time since joining the 16 member organisation in 2005. The island nation took over as chairperson from Zimbabwe until the next summit in August 2026.

Madagascar has taken over from Zimbabwe as chairperson of the @SADC_News Council of Ministers. The Council is convening from 12 to 14 August to deliberate on key programmes, policies & interventions aimed at accelerating regional integration & strengthening peace and security.

This Wednesday, @SADC_News and @jumuiya to hold a virtual summit to discuss the security situation in the eastern DRC. The meeting will get updates on progress made following the last meeting held on 1 August 2025 which endorsed the merger of EAC, SADC & @_AU peace structures.

The day is followed by National Defence Forces Day, to honour the role of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces in protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, and contributing to international peace and stability.
