How Taiwan gambled on being able to keep Covid out and eventually lost. Little testing, no surveillance for unidentified cases and practically no vaccinations left Taiwan vulnerable to an inevitable lapse at the border.

For all those writing & commenting on Taiwan's election, some data to counter some common misconceptions. Taiwan's wages are not "stagnant." We've seen the fastest wage growth since the 1990s. Inflation has eroded the gains over the past 2+ years but prices will ease this year.

Any export-oriented economies out there looking for the best way to weather the trade war should take a look at Taiwan. It is the only one of the Asian Tiger economies to have raised its 2019 GDP forecast. All others have cut in recent weeks. 🇹🇼 2.46% 🇰🇷 2.2% 🇭🇰 0-1% 🇸🇬 0-1%
