NHS hospital: I noticed the clock on the wall showed the wrong time. A nurse told me they knew, but they wouldn’t report it because replacing the battery through the NHS would cost £70. A £2 battery... £70. How? Why? That's when I began to dig further. 🧵

Some idiots get caught by the rising price of petrol. I always put £70 in when I go to the station!!!

The Station Nightclub fire happened in 2003. No smartphones. No Instagram. 100 people still died because they stood watching the flames, thinking it was part of the show. I've retrofitted fire safety for some of the largest property portfolios in the UK post-grenfell. You
This clip truly epitomizes the age of Instagram stupidity, where the urge to record stuff is now powerful enough to override instincts programmed into humans since the dawn of time.

I didn't know that a reference could ask specifically for the number of days off an employee has had. Is that right?

What I love the most in my role is filling forms, spending hours getting used to finding the info you need in obscure places, logging 20 times. CPD, PM, Obs, books and dpt scrutinies, curriculum docs, analyses, orders, info for school website and initiatives (what else?)

So today I'm on a "train" going to London. Because of engineering work, first leg from York to Wakefield but coach. Feels like I am back in Belfast in 1994! Nothing here seems to longer work.

What is the purpose of education/schools? What happened that schools have to spend huge amounts of money to consult marketing companies in order to "brand" or "rebrand"? Am I the only one who thinks this is insane?

Quick maths. About 700000 students apply to uni through Ucas. At £28.95 for the privilege, that is roughly 20 million. An extra 20 million made on students!!!

But in the meantime, we still deal with teaching mixed ability (2 tiers in the same class), harsh grading, heavy content that is hard to cover and extra tasks in the speaking. Well, all instructions in English though. go and figure. How depressing!

In what seems to be a parallel world, the world of GCSE MFL, we have to deal with this:

50 things that make teaching great: 1) No two days are the same 2) You’ll laugh every day 3) You’ll meet amazing people 4) The children will astound you 5) When the penny drops for a child 6) Holidays 7) Reflection on things is always worthwhile 8) You’ll get some great stories
