On DAO lifespan:. - We find a common correlation: the bigger, the older it is.- . But exceptions, e.g. one with 1M voters and just 43 days old. - We find smaller DAOs are more likely to "perish" or become inactive. - . But some were meant to be temporal, and that's ok. 6/7.

(2) However, many DAOs (39%) of varying sizes are egalitarian by design: i.e., one-person-one-vote voting systems, of which 22 DAOs have >1K voters. This finding challenges the "DAOs = plutocracies" premise, and showcases the high experimentation happening in the field . 5/7.

On inequality & power:. We see two contradictory trends:.(1) Like other online communities, DAOs seem to follow the "Iron Law": becoming increasingly oligarchic as they grow. Most DAOs with >1K voters, >50% of voting power is controlled by an oligarchy of 1% of voters. 4/7.

On DAO Platforms:.We measured @SnapshotLabs @Tallyxyz @AragonProject @DAOhaus @DaoStack @Realms_DAOs.How many communities do they host? And of which size are they? . We knew Snapshot was big, but not this big: it's used by 80% of today's active DAOs, across all sizes.3/7.

On Size:.20K DAOs were empty, likely for testing, leaving us with 10K DAOs. Like other online communities, most DAOs are small: 50%, ≤10 voters. Still, ~300 DAOs have >1K voters, and 4 have >100K, which is an insane size for self-managed online decision-making to happen. 2/7.
